A recount of the ballots Monday afternoon confirmed that businessman Kenny Shook won the July 31 Republican Party primary for the District 2 seat on the Barrow County Board of Commissioners.
"We have just finished, and nothing changed," said elections supervisor Monica Franklin. "The numbers stayed the same."
Shook beat former commissioner Bill Brown by 10 votes. The tally was 710 for Shook and 700 for Brown. The recount took about 45 minutes. Both candidates were present, as were a couple of members of the local Republican Party.
With no Democratic opposition in November's general election, Shook will be the next District 2 commissioner, replacing Eva Elder. His term begins in January 2013.

And congratulations to Mr. Shook, also.
