Belligerent customer pushes young store clerk
An irate customer at Kroger on Spout Springs Road became aggressive toward a store clerk while attempting to buy items, according to an incident report from the Braselton Police Department.
The 19-year-old store clerk said a man became upset while trying to use a self check-out lane at the grocery store. The suspect moved items that he had scanned, along with those yet to be scanned, and went to another register.
The clerk said he went to help the suspect at the register and explained that he would have to rescan the items.
The clerk said the suspect then became upset at him, yelled at him and called him a “punk,” according to an incident report. The suspect was upset that the clerk touched the items that he wanted to purchase.
The suspect got in the clerk’s face, while yelling at him. The suspect forced the clerk to back up to another register, where he couldn’t escape. The suspect continued to yell at the clerk before pushing a cart out of the way and pushing the clerk. The clerk said he swung at the offender when he started to push him.
An officer watched a video of the entire incident and said the clerk didn’t act aggressive toward the suspect at anytime. The video confirmed the clerk’s side of the story, according to an incident report.
Braselton Incidents
The following incidents were reported to the Braselton Police Department last week:
•criminal trespass at a Madrid Falls Road address, where someone wrote “Who am I” in the shape of a question mark on a town-owned well house. An officer said the writing wasn’t done with spray paint, but appeared to have been done with a paint brush.
•possible shots fired at a Zion Church Road address, where a man said he was smoking in the area when he heard gunshots. When the man went to the front of a residence, he saw an unknown white vehicle with a man in the passenger seat and a woman in the driver’s seat traveling on Zion Church road. An officer searched the area, but was unable to find bullet holes in the house. Another person called 911 about the shots. Dispatchers said they could hear several people talking in the background with discussion of pressing charges or they would physically harm someone. An officer asked the first man to tell what really happened and he said he didn’t know.
•verbal dispute at a Walnut Woods Drive address, where a woman said a another woman that she knows dropped off a large amount of her belongings at her work. The second woman told the first woman she could get the other belongings and leave her residence. The first woman said while she was getting her belongings, the second woman pushed and scratched her. The second woman also deleted phone numbers on her cell phone of mutual friends. An officer told the woman about their legal remedies in the civil matter.
•accident on Ga. Hwy. 211, where a woman who was possibly driving drunk and failing to maintain lane hit another vehicle. The woman was taken to a hospital, where she told an officer that she was drugged and raped. The first officer contacted an investigator, who began questioning the woman at the hospital. Braselton police are still investigating the incident and charges may be pending.
•verbal dispute at a Perimeter Circle address, where a woman said she got into an argument with her husband about a remote control. During the incident, the woman said her husband slapped her and she kicked him. An officer said he didn’t see any visible marks on either person. They agreed to separate for the evening.
•theft by taking at El Centinela Mexican Restaurant on Ga. Hwy. 53, where a man said his wife realized after she left the restaurant that she left her purse under a table. The restaurant later couldn’t find the purse.
•theft of mislaid property at Kroger on Spout Springs Road, where a woman said she left her iPhone at the grocery store two weeks ago. The woman had been making calls to management at the store about the phone, but it had not been located. The woman said an application on the phone that allows users to track its location with GPS indicated that it was at a residence in Hall County. Two Braselton officers and a Hall County deputy went to the house, but those inside denied having knowledge of the phone. The woman then said the phone had been moved. Officers checked several other locations, but didn’t find it.
•damage to property at the Braselton Water Department on Josh Pirkle Road, where an officer checking the area along a fence line hit a tree stump with his patrol vehicle. The car had damage to its front end. The officer reported the incident to his supervisors and closed an open gate at the water department.
Braselton Arrests
The Braselton Police Department made the following arrests last week:
•Jeffrey Scott Crosby, 49, 927 Cruce Lake Drive, Hoschton, failure to yield when entering or crossing a roadway, open container of alcohol while operating a vehicle, disorderly conduct and DUI.
•Stanley Dale Billinsley, 57, 100 White Horse Road, Ext. B, Travelers Rest, S.C., speeding, reckless driving and giving false identification information to a law enforcement officer.
