Winder Mayor David Maynard on Tuesday night issued an urgent plea for water customers to conserve water. Water usage is up, but the city’s resources are down.
"The bottom line is I urge all of you to be as conservative with water as possible," Maynard said at the end of the regular meeting of the Winder City Council. He said the municipal system's primary drinking water source, the Mulberry River, is down to a "trickle."
The city also can pull about 850,000 gallons a day from the lake at Fort Yargo State Park and can purchase more Bear Creek Reservoir water from the Barrow County Water & Sewerage Authority, but that is straining the city system, Maynard said.
In fact, the county's water director, Myron Garrett, also asked for the newspaper's help in urging customers to abide by outdoor watering restrictions.

It's hard to grasp just how little fresh water there is on this planet until you've studied a shot from a satellite.
It wont be long before we begin to have rationed water supply like they did in Europe in the 90's during Bosnias civil war. I was in a unit that had to moderate a villages water supply each day
The reason we haven't sent people there is that even the best engines take 6 months one way, and only if Mars and Earth are close enough together in their orbits.
It'll be a few decades before we figure out how to shield astronauts from radiation for a 3+ year trip and supply them with enough food and water.
I don't hold it against you.
