An electrical wiring malfunction with a heating-and-air-conditioning unit caused the Tuesday morning fire that damaged the building on the corner of East Athens and Broad streets in downtown Winder.
Winder Fire Chief Matt Whiting said the blaze, which was called in between 8:30 and 9 a.m., appeared to be an accident.
No one was injured. However, the vacant office space where heavy smoke was first visible sits above a street-level finance company, which did suffer water damage as a result of the emergency, Whiting said.

Matter of fact… Winder Fire and Police did do a great job… with the help of Barrow County Emergency Services. As a matter of fact BCES assisted Winder by sending at least 2 engines a “truck” (ladder), a “med unit” (ambulance) and other personnel…
