Winder officials look at amending codes

On June 14 the council’s Public Safety Committee agreed to recommend to the full council in July two amendments to the city code section governing the sale of special event facility licenses. The first would eliminate the prohibition against city officials or their spouses holding alcohol licenses. The other would remove the restriction on the number of days a special event facility could host events where alcohol is sold. The current limit is eight days per month unless there is a fifth Saturday in the month.

The committee also agreed to recommend removal of two other general restrictions on the sale of alcohol inside the city:

• The prohibition of alcohol sales on election days.

• The requirement that anyone applying for a city license to open a package store be a resident of Barrow County for a year.
