The Braselton Planning Commission will hear two requests when it meets on Monday, June 25, at 7 p.m.
First, Braselton Acquisitions and Development, LLC., has asked to annex and rezone 3.39 acres at 983 Ga. Hwy. 124 in Barrow County to build a retail/commercial development. The requested zoning for the property is general commercial.
The property was once the home of Sharon Baptist Church, which has since relocated to Auburn. An existing cemetery on the property will remain undisturbed.
Plans tied to churches to be heard Monday

There are places throughout Gwinnett County and all over metro Atlanta where churches moved onto other properties, either because of growth in the congregation or too make a profit off of growth around their existing properties. Just off the top of my head, I can think of two cemeteries behind gas station and across the street from grocery stores. This is a "good problem." Local communities are growing and local churches are seeking to have more room for people to join them in worship. The hearings are designed to insure that the cemeteries are undisturbed - which should be a positive thing for families of those buried there.

Here's the problem with this. The city of braselton has expanded over the years into traditionally rural areas, then they come along and impose citified regulations and rezonings and have their police force lay in wait to write people tickets. I have no respect for the pseudo city of braselton or it's trumped up authority in rural barrow county. They need to retreat into their traditional borders and leve the common folk alone

No kidding dude, what do u think joining a Town or a City does? U join their policies and everything, you're joining their group basically. We're a blessed Town and we are growing and we're expanding in Barrow county since its all unincorporated and hoschton wont take it so we will. Hope u like our Town, its going to be the size of Atlanta once we're done.

The town should be re-named: Chateau Elan or, perhaps, Panozville. Fake name. Fake winery. Fake doctor.

Nobody likes your town except the rich boys that run it, we didn't get to vote on whether or not to join,as you say. Take you little police force and your citified zoning ordinances and stuff em in your bazooka fella.

Ah ok, so you're in a neighborhood in that area and u had no choice, right? So you would rather not have a police department patrol your neigbhorhood and area but rather Barrow county sherrif? lmfao. I don't get why your soo mad at Braselton, are you a hoschton lover? Join hoschton then buddy, have fun with that. Have fun with their city hall and council which is a GREAT field day if you want anything done. Be greatful that you're in this Town, it could be much worse.

Sharon Baptist already had this property zoned commercial in Barrow County around two years ago. They have already sold off their church building. I now believe they are based in Auburn. This property is going to be re-developed into commercial, and this Braselton application can't change that fact at all.

It was zoned to sell because they were told by DOT that the road would come within 4 feet of the front door. Who wants to step out of churchon a Sunday afternoon and get run over. I must say God has done great great things with Sharon, but it is still sad that after 125 years, the DOT and do what they did.

Eminent domain is the law. A remnant of the absolute power of a monarch. The only twist is that the 'king' pays you what he wants to. And, idiots, please don't bother saying that if the private property owner isn't happy with what is "offered," the poor citizen can take it to court. That, dear friends, is a farce. All the citizen realistically can do is refuse to take the lowball offer and then accept what the 'king' was willing to pay all along.
