Legal expenses exceed budgeted amount for year

For the second year in a row, the Barrow County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday night agreed to spend $200,000 more than what it had budgeted for the year’s legal expenses.

CFO Rose Kisaalita said the county exhausted its full appropriation for attorneys’ fees by the end of the seventh month of services, which was April. That leaves another five months of expenses to fund in the FY2012 fiscal year that ends Sept. 30.

“The attorney’s budget is right now in the red by about $10,000,” Kisaalita said.

She said she already is aware of significant legal services that have been provided since April but have not been billed — namely, services associated with the $4 million narrow-banding project that involves a major bond refunding, a large capital lease and resolving legal obstacles to the project.

“So I think for the rest of the year, we might require another $200,000,” Kisaalita said. “If we don’t use it, that is good news.”

The vote was 4-2, with commissioners Larry Joe Wilburn and Eva Elder voting no.

$400,000.00 + spent defending the actions of the Chairman and the BOC at the expense of the county.

They keep increasing her budget 100% year upon year to appease their egos at the cost of the county.

No wonder they say they are "Not accountable to any one"

After all if they run out of "Your" money, they can just vote to take from your neighbor.

In the private sector, miss the budget by 10% best hope your boss likes you...

Miss the budget by 50% the contract best eat most of it if they want to keep the contract...

Miss the budget by 125% both the contractor and the project sponsor are on the way out the door with the lawyers filling suite the next day...

But this is not the private sector, its barely public...

Matter of fact its really just a bunch of bullies using "your" money to run off anyone not from here because "they're gonna teach'em a lesson on how things are done in barrow" no matter how much it cost.

They cut the DA's budget and Increased the County Attorney's budget by 125%.

Who's interest are they protecting?

Really, its pretty simple.

In the private sector, miss your budget and the Contractor will eat most of those cost. In addition, you can expect to lose your job.

Given that County Attorney's budget has been increased by up to 100% for every year since Yearwood and his boys took office, Whose interest are they looking out for?

Why is it OK to reduce the DA's budget(charged with defending the county from the criminals) but the County Attorney's budget (charged with defending the actions of the BOC against the county's citizens) is increased by 100%.

Who's interest are they looking for?

Really, What's so hard to understand?

Must be one of those county BOC / lawyer / employee types.

I'm not any of those things that you listed on the bottom. To help you understand where I was coming from, you never gave information about any of the things you put in the second post. Your first post was just a rant, you had no substance to it. Based on your second post (and I think others will agree), you have made an argument that is more clear.

By the way, try not to be a keyboard warrior by attempting to belittle me by posting that "its pretty simple," and that "must be one of those..." Next time try to be more informative so people like me with no prior knowledge can understand where you are coming from.

He's one of those overly educated people who sometimes talks so far above peoples heads, they just look at him like he's a nut job. Outside his circle of overly educated people, he is considered eccentric.

I love my husband, but sometimes even I don't understand what he's talking about, and we've been married most of our lives!!!

He is outraged that the county elected officials thinks nothing of abusing their powers to bully people who offend them.

He's outraged that the people of Barrow care so little as to how their tax dollars are wasted.

He's outraged the citizens don't exercise their right to vote. Only 10% actually vote.

We were talking to a person who said they follow the presidential election and knew who they were voting for, BUT couldn't name a single local elected official or anyone who is currently running for office. HOW SAD IS THAT?
