Men charged for trafficking marijuana

The Braselton Police Department charged two men with intent to distribute a controlled substance, after officers found 1.25 pounds of marijuana in their vehicle, according to an incident report.
An officer initially stopped a 2005 Chrysler 300 on Interstate 85 for an obstructed license plate. The vehicle had slowed to 10 mph below the speed limit near the officer that was on patrol on the interstate. The officer also said he noticed that the two men had their backs pressed against their seats and were focused straight ahead.
The driver of the vehicle told the officer that they were driving to Atlanta to look at an English bulldog, which he didn’t purchase. The man said the vehicle belonged to his aunt. The officer talked to the driver outside of his vehicle.
The officer then went back to the vehicle and started speaking to the passenger while he looked for an insurance card. The passenger didn’t know why they men were traveling to Atlanta .
The officer returned to the driver and asked him if he had anything illegal in his vehicle and the driver denied having any of those items. The driver allowed the officer to search his vehicle, where two plastic freezer bags with 1.25 pounds of marijuana was found in the trunk.
Braselton police charged Jinri Akel Branham, 19, and Glenn Dale James Jr., both of Leland, N.C., with intent to distribute a controlled substance. James was also charged with obscuring a tag frame. They were taken to the Jackson County Jail.
Braselton Incidents
The following incidents were reported to the Braselton Police Department last week:
•damage to property at Cork and Keg on Ga. Hwy. 53, where an employee showed an officer a video of an unknown man driving to the store in a pickup truck and forcing open a vending machine. The man stole a change tray from the machine by drilling through a lock on it. An officer in Arcade told Braselton police that it had a similar incident with a vending machine, as well.
•battery at a Park Bend Avenue address, where an officer responded to a 911 hang up call. A woman said she and her juvenile son got into an argument about a cell phone. An officer asked about scratches on the woman’s arm. She said the scratches occurred during an argument with her son. The son was found crying inside the home and said he couldn’t believe that his mother would blame him for the scratches, according to an incident report. The woman then said she caused the scratches to her arm. The woman’s husband said a scratch on his arm was possibly caused when his watch cut him during an argument with the son. An officer handcuffed the juvenile and took him to the police station for questioning with an investigator.
•disorderly conduct at a Bald Cypress Drive address, where a woman who is a foster parent for a 13-year-old girl said she locked the child out of her home after having problems with her for two days. While outside, the girl used a piece of wood to ram a door and open it. The woman had been trying to call DFCS, asking the agency to remove the child from her home. A DFCS case worker later came to her home and took the child as an officer watched.
•simple battery at a Sahale Falls Drive address, where a woman said her estranged husband came to the residence drunk and tried to visit their children. When the woman stepped in front of him to stop him, the estranged husband violently shoved her. The woman said she didn’t have any marks on her body and her children didn’t witness the event. The husband was gone when police arrived.
•criminal trespass at McDonald’s on Ga. Hwy. 53, where a woman said a man that she wasn’t dating was standing on the property watching her. The woman previously told police about the man and he was told not to return. The man talked to an employee of the Pilot Travel Center and said he wasn’t allowed on the neighboring McDonald’s property. Braselton police went to the man’s house and gave him a criminal trespass warning.
•suicide at Trigger Time Range on Spout Springs Road, where a 39-year-old man committed suicide by shooting himself inside the shooting range facility.
•hit and run at the Pilot Travel Center on Ga. Hwy. 53, where a man said another tractor-trailer truck hit and damaged his tractor-trailer truck while he was inside the store. The man didn’t have a description of the other vehicle.
•damage to property at Golden Pantry on Ga. Hwy. 53, where a tractor-trailer truck driver hit a sign for the store with his vehicle.

•Kit Allan Riegel, 66, 7481 Majestic Lane, Flowery Branch, failure to yield when entering or crossing roadway, failure to maintain lane and DUI.
•Lucy A. Lytton, 53, 4000 St. Elizabeth Drive, Kenner, La., disorderly under the influence.
