Winder kicks off summer with 'Summerfest'

Winder is kicking off the traditional start of summer with its annual ‘Summerfest’ featuring midway rides, games, music and food. Entertainment this weekend includes performances by Mike McIntire, Vertically Challenged, Arcado, Southern Relics, Scarlet Stitch and Show Time on Saturday, May 26; Mobile DJ Service by Kelly Martin on Sunday, May 27; and Vancouver, Not Quite Devils on Monday, May 28.

The festival is in the Jug Tavern Park adjacent to the Winder Community Center on East Athens Street.

It runs through June 3. Hours are 5-11 p.m. both Fridays; noon-11 p.m. both Saturdays; 1-10 p.m. both Sundays; noon to 10 p.m. on Memorial Day; and 5-10 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, May 29-31. Discount coupons are available at www.windergaevents.org under the ‘Summerfest’ link.

106 West Athens St is having open mic night. Saturday, starting at 7:30 pm. The City of Winder garbage and construction department will be closed.

I am not sure who posted this message, but I think that it may in support of our concerns here at 106 West regarding the fact that the lot behind us at 106 is up for a rezone to become an industrial lot. To the City of Winder's credit, they have just recently upheld the zoning laws that we had been asking them to uphold for 4 years by telling the pallet/ trucking company in the lot behind us that their activities are out of zone.
We can use folk's help though to fight this rezone though. If you are interested in helping us, please call us at 770-868-1977 at the music school or write me at beckytollerson@106west.com. Lorin Sinn Clark wrote a great article in the Journal this week but it is not yet posted. We appreciate all concern and help.

It is amazing how low some people will go. I come here to get information on our towns Summerfest. But see it has been hijacked by a local business for their own personal agenda.

Gail, My apologies. I was not trying to "hi-jack" the site, rather, I saw that 106 West had been mentioned in an anonymous post and wanted to make sure that folks knew that the City was trying to do right thus far in this issue.

I went to listen to the band Friday night and really enjoyed it!Thank you Winder Showtime band was great!

Went on Memorial Day. A little disappointed in the lack of variety, but it was a good chance to see how my 21 month old will act at a fair.

I went Friday night as well and heard a christian rock group performing. They sounded good! good to see God being lifted up at a carnival
