Winder to crack down on drug devices

Now that state law prohibits convenience stores from selling synthetic marijuana, Winder police are targeting another drug-related product easily available in the community: drug paraphernalia.
Stores legally sell pipes and other devices often used to smoke illegal substances, because the packaging says they are “for tobacco use only” or they are sold as “novelty” items.

But Winder police chief Dennis Dorsey told the Winder City Council’s Public Safety Committee this month that there is no doubt that the devices actually are being used for smoking marijuana or other drugs.

After receiving a complaint from a local mother in early May, city officers sent a local teen-ager into a Winder store to shop openly for a marijuana pipe.

Recruting children to do police work....I guess there is no level too low for law enforcement.

Disgusting abuse of power...the police state is upon us.

with the youth, first use them as the reason, then use them as enfocers, then after the oldthe weak and feeble are gone the youth can be your army........ maybe the city police gave the youngperson jack boots and fatigues to wear on this operation.....
by the way a soda can works just fine for use in smoking drugs or even better an apple and leaves no evidence for parents to find later... just saying this is silly

You're right on, Odin. A little weed never hurt anybody. Go after the meth, the pill poppers, and the drunks on the road night after night. Leave the pot smokers alone to practice their peaceful religion.

This must be a joke. Our mayors brother opened Winders first head shop. I bought my first water pipe from Jerry. Now the Maynard's come along and say no more drug paraphernalia.

its ok to make sure no one else encroaches on the those picked to become headshop kings!!!! the enforcement is like enforceing any moral law on adults there are choices made on who and when toenforce thelaw and choices made when to enforce different law and on different group. the power of selective enforcement

Well basic reading comprehension would suggest that since the WPD LEOs get there marching orders from Chief Dorsey( common knowledge)
Logic dictates that ie: Chief Dorsey tell his officers to" target drug paraphernalia".

since you appear to be in la la land every police officer and every dept make choices on what laws to enforce where and how much in addition so does each atty hired to or voted to enforce such arrests a police dept wont make arrest if they find atty will not bring it to charges unless it is like in Austin TX where the police chief uses the arrest as way to change actions and cares less if it gets charged. as he says hey will beat the ticket but still have to take the ride.
so if you want the people to believe police do not choose what laws they enfocre and who they charge you are living in some la la land. even when it comes o what may or may not be felony cases, if one is told not to poke around without cause or there is not enough to continue the path your on then it is stopped. pretty much simple flk get the brunt of the enforcement and those with money and power and the sense to shut up and not speak with the officer trying to build a bridge to a case that is shakey at best to start make out free and clear best advice. do not answer ANY question police ask, make no statements merely give them your papers and shut your mouth. no matter what.

I'm all for keeping drugs out of kids hands, but this story does seem odd.

As far as I can tell the pipes are legal but have a tag on them saying they are designed for tobacco use & tobacco (not pipes) is age restricted. So the police figure that since the pipes are not illegal to sell to any age person, but the manufacturer recommends them for use to smoke tobacco that age restriction applies.

No offense folks but we are about to lose tons of tax dollars in court. Under this logic it is also illegal for a 17 year old to buy an ash tray at Wallmart.

will never end with all the things people can use to get high, heck kids are getting high off the hand sanitizer the schools have and parents have on the list of supplies, kids used to sniff DITTO ink. well there is no more DITTO machines but sure after the fake weed and pipe sellers are jailed and fined next will be fresh produce sellers and aluminum can sellers. glad to see all violent crimes and thefts have been sokved to give the police such extra time..... uh oh i missplelled solved well really mis typed but i am sure some grammar nazi will point it out, no point in fixing it.....

the police setup roadblocks where Motor homes pass though and start searching the fridges for "open containers" yeah it is technically against the law but it has nothing to do wth the driver in many cases, or when they set up the searches of limosines and buses that unless the owner has paid for "special" license cant have folks in other area with open containers.... we should just let them do like they did the lady in Atlanta who spent 53 days in jail for sharing the same FIRST name of a wanted lady... yes first name... well whats the harm the lady probably did something that deserved he being kept in jail for 53 days..... all in the name of keeping the folks safe.
wait till one day you cant see your family cause you wind up wrongly jaird, hope you didnt buy a used car or even a demo someone may have dropped a baggie of drugs while test driving in. or your local gargage guy or carwash guy doesnt lose his stah and you get stopped at SAFETY checkpoint, hard to explai how those drugs got in your car even more so when you have no idea, but JAIL with murders thieves and rapist will make you better..... een if you do drugs you shouldnt have to be kept in confinement with violent predators, i dont think you should be jailed at all, and no I do not do drugs not even from the DR or over the counter. but i have been violent when younger and no drinking or drugs just people pushing my button but age cured that not not using drugs....
