The Winder Police Department is receiving complaints from citizens who have become a victim of a telephone scam.
Winder Police detective Rachel Love in a press release wrote that the complaints are that citizens are receiving a telephone call from a “Financial Crimes Department.” They are told they owe a debt and if they do not pay the debt they will go to jail.
This company has also made contact with employers telling them that their employee is in legal trouble and if they do not receive a payment from their employee the employee will be going jail.
The telephone numbers of the company have been traced back to the States of North Carolina, California and New York.
Citizens are urged to never give out any personal information over the phone, through the mail or on the Internet unless they have initiated the contact or are sure they know the company they are dealing with is reliable.
