A wanted juvenile, 16, and a second juvenile, 13, face charges after police found them in a wooded area off Creekwood Road in Winder near stolen firearms on Wednesday, authorities confirmed.
Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith said Wednesday afternoon that the teens, whose names cannot be released because of their ages, face charges of entering auto, theft by taking, burglary, criminal trespass, run away juvenile and unruly juvenile. The 16-year-old also faces charges of aggravated assault family violence and terroristic threats family violence.
Both teens were detained without incident.
“The good thing is everybody is fine and they are all safe,” said Smith.
Barrow Journal seems better about not sensationalizing, but local media in general is desperate for attention with the Internet taking most of its viewers and readers.
More things like this make the news, but not much else has changed.
That will condition them to obey the law.
1) Lack of parenting. Parents are either too afraid to discipline their children because of the laws surrounding child abuse, or they rather be their kids friend instead of being a parent. Being a parent is that, it is your job to raise your child. You do not need to be your kids best friend. Parenting is a dictatorship, and you (the parent)are the ultimate power in the house. Stop being your child's best friend and raise them. State of Georgia is a Corporal Punishment State, which means, you can spank your child. As long as you don't leave permanent marks, no blood, and no broken bones, IT'S DISCIPLINE. The State says you only have to provide them food to eat, clothes to wear, and a place to sleep. They do not need to the most trendy of clothes, they don't need a tv, a cell phone, the Playstation 3's, or an IPad.
2) The system is broken. The kids know that juvenile court is not going to do anything too them. They know that they can break every law on the books, the court is just going to slap their hand at best and send them back home. The kids know that even if they do manage to go to a Youth Detention Center, they run the assylum. They know the gaurds can't do anything to them, because all they have to do is scream "child abuse."
Let's get back to the way things were 30+ years ago. Spoil the Rod.
No, don't touch that or else ..... replace else with .. or I will time you out, slap your little hand (not hard), etc. AND FOLLOW THROUGH with it.
Always be consistent ... tell them no, tell them why and FOLLOW THROUGH on the consequences.
The system makes it hard and giving the children the idea that they can report the parents.
The JV court system SUCKS!!! They blame the parents and punish the parents instead of the child.
Once a teen sets their mind to do something they are going to do it reguardless of how good or bad the parenting skills are...
And to prove the system sucks the 13 year old child was back in school the next day!!!
The 16 year old has some of the best people raising him (his grandparents) and they have gone above and beyond to make this child succeed in life.
The system is screwing the children over by having DFACS in everything and not allow the parents to do their job.
To top it all off, once she turned 18, they had the audacity to call me and tell me they were going to keep her case open. For what, I will never understand...what a waste of tax payer funds...
Oh, and my daughter is still on the streets. A meth addict refusing any help and refusing to admit her drug use is a problem. Great job Barrow County. They could have stepped in and done their job. They talked about sending her to rehab. ALL TALK. No action what so ever. They are a WASTE of space and tax dollars.
