With the county’s emergency radio communications system still in technical disarray, the chief of Barrow County Emergency Services on Monday demoted the long-time manager of the Barrow County E-911 Center and appointed a new employee as interim manager. Chief Dennis Merrifield announced the personnel change in an email Tuesday morning to his staff and to other county officials.
“As of 5:00 P.M., Monday, 5/7/2012, Kathy Wallace has accepted a new position as a Senior Communications Officer,” the email states. “Kathy is a long term, dedicated employee of Barrow County and an excellent dispatcher. She will continue to serve Barrow County well in her new position.”
Merrifield said in the 10:05 a.m. email that he had appointed Deputy Chief John Skinner as the interim E-911 center manager, but he told the Barrow Journal in an email at 12:21 p.m. that he had decided instead to appoint the recently hired assistant manager of communications as interim manager.
