Friday, April 27. 2012
A senior prank may have gone too far when two high school students wrote offensive words and pictures on the exterior of another student’s car, according to an incident report from the Braselton Police Department.
A 17-year-old student from Flowery Branch High School said someone wrote words on his vehicle while it was parked at Kroger on Spout Springs Road. The pictures also included stick figures with what appeared to be a penis and scrotum, according to an incident report.
The victim said he attends Flowery Branch High School and it was senior prank week. The victim said a co-worker saw the vehicle being damaged.
The witness gave the names of two high school seniors whom he saw drawing on the victim’s vehicle, according to Braselton police.
Braselton Incidents
The following incidents were reported to the Braselton Police Department last week:
•forgery at the Pilot Travel Center on Ga. Hwy. 53, where an officer said he was told by dispatchers that there was a forgery in progress at the store. When the officer arrived, he was immediately approached by a woman, who said that she gave the clerk a $100 bill, but was told that it was fake. The store clerk said when the woman handed her the bill, she immediately recognized as being a counterfeit bill. The officer said he could tell that the bill’s color and texture was wrong. The clerk used a currency pen on the bill, which showed that it was fake. The woman said a company in East Point gave her the fake bill as payment for a job. The officer took the bill as evidence and told the woman that he would write an incident report so that she could attempt to be reimbursed.
•possession of less than one ounce of marijuana on Interstate 85, where an officer stopped a vehicle for a broken tag light and excessively-dark tinted windows. The driver’s license was suspended and canceled. An officer said he could smell burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle, which was confirmed by a second officer. Officers searched the vehicle, where a glass bong with a napkin stuffed inside of it was located. A marijuana bud was found inside the napkin. The driver said the bong didn’t belong to her and it was left in the trunk by a friend. Police issued the 22-year-old driver with citations for driving on a suspended license and possession of less than one ounce of marijuana. The marijuana was taken into evidence by police.
•theft by taking at Subway on Ga. Hwy. 211, where a manager said $260 was missing from a vault. The manager said she talked to an employee who closed the store the previous evening and reviewed surveillance video of the store. The video showed a male employee entering the store and going to an area where the change currency is kept. The male employee didn’t come to work the following morning. The manager said she has been unable to contact the male employee, who recently started working at the store. The case was given to an investigator.
•failure to maintain lane on I-85, where an officer stopped a vehicle that appeared to have recent, extensive damage to its passenger side. The vehicle also swerved several times on the interstate. When an officer questioned the 37-year-old driver about the damage, he said, “What do you mean?.” The officer said he could smell the strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle and the driver appeared unbalanced when he exited the vehicle. The officer asked that a trooper and a second Braselton officer respond to the scene. He also asked that Gwinnett County officers be contacted about any possible hit and run incident in their county. A Gwinnett County officer and state trooper arrived on the scene. The trooper conducted a DUI investigation. The Gwinnett County officer confirmed that the vehicle was involved in a hit and run incident. The trooper arrested the driver for suspected DUI.
•failure to maintain lane on I-85, where an officer said a pickup truck almost hit his patrol vehicle while the officer was watching traffic on the interstate. The officer drove his patrol vehicle to the truck, but two other vehicles behind the truck wouldn’t pass it. The officer turned on his patrol vehicle’s emergency light and the truck continued traveling on I-85 and was unable to maintain its lane. The truck stopped when the officer activated his siren. During a traffic stop, the 47-year-old driver tried to hand the officer several credit cards while attempting to give the officer his driver’s license. The officer said he could smell alcohol on the driver’s breath. The driver said he was fatigued from a long day and only had about four hours of sleep before a business meeting. The driver said he knew that he had “drifted” while driving. An officer said he could smell alcohol on the man’s breath and the driver agreed to perform some field sobriety tests. A state trooper conducted the DUI investigation and arrested the man for suspected DUI.
•possession of less than one ounce of marijuana on I-85, where an officer stopped a vehicle for a broken tag light. During a traffic stop, an officer said he could smell burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle. The driver and a passenger denied having any marijuana in the vehicle. The occupants were placed in the back of a patrol vehicle while officers searched their vehicle. They were told that they were not under arrest. Officers found two marijuana cigarettes and a small bag with marijuana in it in the vehicle. Neither person claimed ownership for the marijuana. They were given citations and released from the scene. The marijuana was taken into evidence by police.
