Miller leaving Barrow for Oconee position

Another administrator with Barrow County Schools has taken a job with a neighboring school system. Oconee County Schools announced on its website that Claire Miller, assistant superintendent of teaching and learning with Barrow schools, has taken a similar position in Oconee County. The Oconee County Board of Education approved Miller and another hire on April 16. They will begin their new positions on June 1.

A statement on that website states Miller has been employed by the Barrow County School System since 1994. She currently serves as the assistant superintendent for teaching and learning, a position she has held since 2007. In fiscal year 2011, Miller earned $111,900 with the school system.

“I am very pleased to welcome these fine educators to our outstanding school system and already exceptional educational team,” Oconee County school superintendent Jason Branch said in a statement. “They have produced excellent results in their respective careers and bring strong skills to these important positions. I look very forward to the leadership they will provide.”

This is a loss for Barrow County. I don't know her personally, but in my dealings with her, she is professional, knowledgeable and competent. Our loss ~ Oconee County's gain.

Wow. Another one Creel got. The best principal in the county left because of her and now Claire leaves. She is going to bankrupt this place of good people. Why are so many people taking lateral moves Mike?

There is a problem and she is easy to find. Also for everyone on this vent that keeps putting down teachers, don't worry they are looking and you will have leftovers teaching your children.

Finally, for once, we have educated people speaking up and staying on topic.....and making valid points. This beats the usual, off-topic, grammar policing rants that usually appear here. We HAVE lost some fine educators......WHY? How can Barrow County develop into a competitive system when some of the best and brightest are leaving. To the person above who spoke of leftovers, I'm afraid ~ to a degree ~ that you're right.

They can't be the "best and brightest" if they were Education majors. Typically, the dregs choose that major.

Excuse me!

I have been teaching for more than a decade after a successful career in other areas. My entrance into education was due to desiring to help prepare the next generation for success.

Are all teachers excellent? For that matter is every auto technician proficient at what he does? Every profession has their good, bad, and yes; ugly.

Before you cast a wide disparaging net, consider who it is you are disparaging. It may be the teacher of your child. Would you want a surgeon operating on you after you disparaged his/her entire profession with such a broad brush?

being a teacher and finding decent ones are two different things, many just there to take the money and enjoy the vacation breaks. sorry but most teachers even what you guys say are the good ones really kind of stink, guess thats why so many rig the tests

Don't know this lady...probably our loss, however, I see this as an opportunity for ghe BOE to save some money.

Not sure what an assistant superintendant of teach and learning is but I think we could combine this job with another.

The school system has been top heavy for a long time, here's an opportunity.

Creel's explanation (self-saving excuse)was that Miller was moving to Oconee County because of some connection her Grandparents had with Oconee! Come on, Miller has worked in Barrow for 18 years....she is connected to Barrow. Dr. Creel who, besides a few BOE members, do you think you are fooling?

What do you mean by "got her job because of her name"? Do you even know her maiden name? She's not from here.... So I'm trying to figure out how her "name" landed her current job ........

maybe she will do better where she is going, maybe our schools will do beter when she is gone. The fact is that it is rarely the top person who gets the job done or not. Its the midlevel managers who either make things work or oversee failure. This woman has overseen failure on a massive scale for the last 18 years in Barrow county.Maybe her replacement will know what they are doing.
