A road rage incident apparently led to one man pointing a gun at another driver in Braselton, according to an incident report from the police department.
A Winder police officer initially told a Braselton officer about an incident that occurred in the town limits along Ga. Hwy. 53.
A victim said that while he was driving on Ga. Hwy. 53, a man waved a gun at him near the Interstate 85 bridge. The victim continued driving toward Winder while calling 911. The Winder Police Department then made contact with the suspect, after a “be on the lookout” was issued to law enforcement agencies in the area.
Winder police said they noticed an empty gun holster laying on the passenger seat of the suspect’s vehicle and a gun on the center console.
A Braselton officer said when he saw the 47-year-old suspect, the man was under arrest and was inside of a Winder police vehicle. The suspect had a strong odor of alcohol on him, according to Braselton police.
An officer took photos of the weapon and told a Braselton investigator about the incident, which remains under investigation.
Braselton Incidents
The following incidents were reported to the Braselton Police Department last week:
•burglary at Chateau Elan, where a woman said someone stole her credit card from her hotel room, while she was dining. The woman said when she returned to her room, she noticed that the door was cracked open and the latch was placed so that it would remain open. The credit card was placed in a bag on the floor. An officer checked with security, which provided the names of the housekeepers that were last logged as visiting the room. A housekeeper said she cleaned the room, but left. When asked if she could have accidently left the door open, she said that she closes the door to each room and double checks to ensure that it is closed and secure.
•simple assault at Duncan Corners Bottle Shop on Spout Springs Road, where a 23-year-old Flowery Branch man said he has been having an ongoing dispute with a 65-year-old man, who continues to accuse the younger man of stealing a gun and jewelry from his residence following a one-night stay. While working at the store, the younger man said the older man approached him and said, “I’m coming for you” while speaking so that other employees and customers wouldn’t hear him. As the older man left the store, he said there is a thief among us. An officer said the younger man appeared very nervous and in fear of what the older man could do.
•theft by taking at a Ga. Hwy. 53 address, where a man who was just released from the Hall County Jail said someone stole his vehicle and vandalized it. The man said when he was released from jail, a friend told him that it was parked at a trailer park on Ga. Hwy. 53. The man went to that location, where he found his vehicle and discovered that someone broke a rear window and stole items from the vehicle. The man said no one had permission to have the car, but he believes that the two people who were with him when he was arrested at a Walmart in Gainesville may be involved. A Braselton officer told the man that he would have to file a stolen vehicle report with the Gainesville Police Department. While speaking to a Gainesville officer, the man said he didn’t want to file a report and later told a Braselton officer that he didn’t care about the vehicle.
•fugitive from justice at a Ga. Hwy. 53 address, where a Braselton officer went to the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office to transport a prisoner. A warrant issued against the prisoner, Perry Michael Thomas, 28, of Athens, was confirmed by the police department. Thomas was transported to the Gwinnett County Jail for a probation warrant.
•hit and run on Ga. Hwy. 211, where a woman said a woman said she hit another vehicle, which continued driving. The woman took a photo of the vehicle, which had its license number. A Braselton officer went to the residence of the listed owner of the damaged vehicle. The owner said he didn’t realize that someone hit his vehicle, as he believed that only his brakes were releasing. There was minimal damage to the truck and the man requested that no report be made for damage that was already existing.
•possession of less than one ounce of marijuana at a Ga. Hwy. 211 address, where an officer stopped a vehicle for speeding and swerving. During the traffic stop, an officer said he could smell the strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle. The driver said he had just attended a party where people were smoking marijuana. During a pat down on the man’s body, an officer found a bag of marijuana in a pocket. The driver said the jacket he was wearing belonged to a person who was at the party. The driver was issued a citation for possession of less than one ounce of marijuana and tail light violation.
