Winder to vote on 2012 SPLOST amendment in called meeting

The actual savings from the bond deal isn't known at this point. An early estimate put it at $1.8 million, but the bond market has fluctuated since the Barrow County Board of Commissioners approved the amendment several weeks ago.

The BOC's approval was contingent on the cities' approval of the deal, because under the current SPLOST agreement, the cities would be entitled to split 40 percent of any savings. But Auburn Mayor Linda Blechinger, the chairman of the Barrow County Mayors Association, weeks ago asked for documentation of the county's proposal and has yet to receive it. But Monday night, the Braselton Town Council went ahead and unanimously approved the amendment.

A second item on the agenda for Winder's called meeting is a proposal for Sheats Structural Consulting Inc. to perform structural design services at the recently purchased municipal building at 25 E. Midland Ave. The city purchased the building at auction and plans to relocate the Winder Police Department and some city administrative offices there this summer. The called meeting will be at the Winder Community Center.
