Clean up for a crash site area where a tanker truck carrying gasoline overturned near Ga. Hwy. 316 on Winder Highway Monday afternoon is not scheduled until Thursday, the Georgia Department of Transportation said Tuesday morning.

The work is planned to begin at 9 a.m. and conclude by 4 p.m. unless unforeseen damage is found. One lane and shoulder will be closed at a time and traffic will be led through the area by a pilot truck. If possible avoid the area, the DOT warns, and if you must travel in this area, slow down and allow extra time as clean up crews work.

The accident occurred at about 12:12 p.m. Monday near a Quik Trip gas station on Winder Highway approximately six miles outside of the Barrow County portion of Auburn.

Gwinnett Fire crews responded to the above site where there was a report of an auto accident with injuries, according to spokesperson Lt. Eric Eberly. Two vehicles were involved, one a passenger car and the other was a tractor trailer hauling gasoline that overturned.

Crews remove two injured victims from the damaged vehicles to a safe area, Eberly said. Gwinnett fire paramedics treated and then transported both victims to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville. Both were listed as stable with moderate injuries.

As of 3:30 p.m. Monday, crews were still at the scene working to contain and stop the leaking gasoline. The truck was said to have approx. 8,500 gallons on board with crews estimating 100 to 250 gallons have leaked to the ground.

Five fire engines, four ambulances and one Haz-Mat unit responded.

QuikTrip (aka QT) is located on the corner of WINDER HWY/US 29 BUS-GA 8 and GA 316, Where the Accident was located, No one has stated that a QuikTrip Tanker is the tanker in the accident, it could be anyone's, it is a very busy intersection.

QuikTrip is the name of the gas station on the NW corner of the intersection, on the other side is Stars-n-Strikes, etc (cant be seen well on the other corner).

Hey WOW, I responded to the QT comment. As I stated it appears QT is NOT involved, nor does this appear to a be QT Truck. The Accident is on WINDER HWY About .25 to .5 from the QT & Waffle House, You can see it from those locations. I dont need a compass I know what I see, so WOW...

By the way your Mapquest sucks.

You were too much of a dullard to comprehend my "Quick Trip" comment. The original story (not the corrected one) referred to "Quick Trip." Not "Quik Trip." Godamighty people are dumb, which includes putative journalists.

I never saw the Barrow Journal's misspelling but people often do that, --although if you go another .75 miles towards Winder on Winder Hwy, there is an Old former Circle K (years ago) that now is using a "knock off name" like "quick trip" or "fast trip" so that could have been the referrence... But I do see errors by the staff as well, not just the posters of comments...

Oh, and "dullard", really? thats the best infrequently used word you pull out? I agree on "many people being.." but...
