The Braselton Police Department — along with federal and state agents — investigated a car fire on Thursday that was initially considered as a possible hate crime.
However, police say the incident isn’t a hate crime and Braselton officers are continuing to investigate the car fire.
Shortly before 2 a.m. on Thursday, April 5, a man in The Falls of Braselton reported that his 1997 Lexus was on fire, according to Braselton police Sgt. Michael Steffman.
Since the family is from Pakistan, police wanted to ensure that the incident wasn’t considered a hate crime. Agents from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) were called to the Loowit Falls Court residence.
“We don’t believe it was a hate crime,” Steffman said.
The family had not received any threats prior to the car fire, he added.
An unknown substance — possibly gas — was poured on the exterior of the car, which was damaged on its front and rear, according to Steffman. Tests are being conducted to determine the substance used to ignite the blaze.
Only the car, which was parked in a driveway, was damaged in the incident. Braselton police have identified a person of interest that they want to speak with about the car fire, Steffman said.
Further deteriorating the Royal Braselton image though, lately if it's going down, its happening in Braselton..
