Three departments are coming to the Barrow County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday night with capital requests totaling about $620,000.
Most are among the capital items to be purchased with the proceeds of low-interest $1.2 million lease-purchase financing from Chase Equipment Finance. The BOC approved the financing in January.
Barrow County Emergency Services chief Dennis Merrifield is recommending that the county purchase three ambulances with Dodge chassis for about $509,500, along with another $17,784 in equipment to outfit the ambulances. He will recommend that the vehicles be purchased from Ten-8 Fire and Safety Equipment of Forsyth.
Elections supervisor Monica Franklin is asking the board to approve the $56,520 purchase of voting machines and Express Poll units. Most of the county’s voting machines are 8-10 years old, and the Express Poll units were purchased in 2005, according to her request in the board’s meeting packet.
Sheriff Jud Smith is asking the board to approve a $28,730 purchase of Laserfiche Records Management Software and hardware. The funds would come from the proceeds of the recent lease-purchase arrangement. The sheriff’s office current records management system uses both paper and electronic records.
The sheriff also is asking the BOC to approve a General Fund expenditure of $7,389 to help pay for 34 bullet-resistant vests. The vests would cost $18,698, but a grant will cover $11,309 of the expense.
Tuesday's meeting starts at 7 p.m. on the second floor of the county government headquarters building on East Broad Street in Winder.
So I went to the Ten-8 website, and 98% of the Apparatus offerings are Chevrolet or Ford based, and almost all of the past orders on display as well, so I ask, how did the New Fire Chief decide to ask for the Dodge Chassis specifically?? I was just wondering, since we are a smaller county, and except for a few Sprinter van chassis vehicles, almost No Dodge Trucks in any fleet... Is this the best option?
And I use a Sig myself..
