In a reaction sure to reaffirm his standing among Barrow County conservatives, Rep. Terry England is incurring the wrath of liberal bloggers from across the United States over comments he made during the Georgia House’s debate of a bill that would narrow the window for legal abortions in this state.
Rep. England, chairman of the powerful House Appropriations Committee, stepped into the fray on Feb. 29 when he took a break from his work on the state budget to wrap up his chamber’s debate on House Bill 954.
That legislation, which the House passed by a vote of 102-65 right after he spoke — and a Senate committee approved on Monday — would restrict to fewer than 20 weeks, instead of the current 26 weeks, the maximum gestational age of a fetus that can be legally aborted.
But it is Rep. England alone who has been targeted by bloggers outside Georgia since the liberal Huffington Post website on March 9 posted a three-minute video of his Leap Day remarks on the House floor. The video appears to be the one that the Atlanta Feminist Women’s Health Center first uploaded to Youtube.com on March 5.
The Huffington Post included with the video a story that has been picked up by other bloggers and websites. Its headline blazed: “Terry England, Georgia Republican Lawmaker, Compares Women to Farm Animals.”
The potent political shot reverberated like buckshot around cyberspace, and the vitriol, much of it mocking in its tone, went viral.

God gave us the ability to create the medical technology that allows us to prevent this kind of pain and agony. Everything is God's Will, correct? Why are our legislators trying to impose their EGO & distortion of God's will on the public? I do NOT think God is happy.
Gwen, God gave us the ability to manufacturer guns and other weapons... does that make it ok to use them against anyone we feel the urge to? Don't think so.
Separation of church and state.
You are aware though, that the U.S. Constitution does NOT use that phrase. That "Separation of church and state" is not stated as such in our constitution.
I agree with you that Republicans will continue to lose credibility, But mainly they will hurt themselves in the Elections by continuing to re-hash this issue, that I am NOT a fan or supporter of(abortion) but I think we have much much much Larger issues to deal with and this needs to be left alone.
Jack Legg
Kindly explain.
The woman doesn't get pregnant by herself. Maybe if men would step up to their responsibilities, women wouldn't have to use abortion as an option. Spoken like a typical man you moron.
English will be my third language and hardest to learn.
Get over it.
AS FOR ABORTION..... Once again the male may be the agressor but the woman has final say!!! All could be avoided with some simple planning
Abortion is murder. Plain and simple. You can call me names or whatever, that doesn't change the fact that a living, human being is killed in an abortion. (read a biology book, folks.)
The Alan Guttmacher Institute (the research and data collector for Planned Parenthood) has stated that 97% of abortion are done for convenience, 1% for rape and incest, and 2% for all other reasons.
There are 33,000 abortions in Georgia a year. 92 a day. A lot of women making a "choice" to kill their children. How many murders are too many for you?
Finally, abortion hurts women. Studies have shown that--even a study that was done by a pro-abortion researcher. He was as surprised as could be, but at least he was intellectually honest and reported his findings without bias.
Representative Terry England is a pro-life hero. He has had and will always have my support and vote.
Their diatribe is full of lies, more lies and damnable lies. We are fortunate to have such men being willing to serve the citizens of this district.
That being said the Pro-Abortion groups will sell and twist this Floor Speach into a frenzy. WHICH BRINGS ME to My Point: WHY, WHY, WHY is this being done in the Presidential Election Year?? Why not 2011 or 2013?? Do the Republicans just want all those on the fence to Run to Obama? That is what the YouTube & Twisted out of context reporting will do. So This is a Poor Plan to Win the White House back, so I guess we can help out Obama for 4 MORE YEARS...Timing is terrible.
I need some CHANGE I can believe in.
A reply to elena.... lets not point fingers... it is a two party affair We should be preaching prevention and personal responsibility toward the act itself
Thank you Terry for reprensenting me at the Capitol!!!! Keep up the fine work that you do!!!!
While we are at it, Richard Saunders, I'd like to see your research as well since you are spouting numbers.
Similarly, the article on our esteemed (?) chairman's latest antics drew a lot of criticism. Had those same people read the whole article, they would have understood that Danny did, in fact, manage to insult the very people (our mayors) that he was trying to court. But, the web site lead in didn't provide enough data for people to understand exactly what he did.
I understand that you are trying to sell newspapers, and to that end, I would suggest that everyone refrain from comment until they have read the complete article, but your practice of only posting part of the story, perhaps intentionally, creates more controversy than is necessary.
Newspapers should report the news, not create it!
it is my choice not to have to decide if i need abortion, my employer or whoever if a church or masque or stake or temple should not have to take part in morally opposed program, not just not have to pay because if having insurance and not having to pay for child preventioncreation directly but your carrier still having to provide it still makes your part promoting it.
this is religous freedom issue not womens mens or childrens issue.
Whether or not to abort an unwanted pregnancy is a very personal decision. I doubt that the majority of women take this decision lightly. For most, I'm sure it is quite heart-wrenching. I don't know if there are statistics avaiable, but given this is a pretty invasive, medical procedure, I don't think it's used as casual birth control as often as some of you would like others to think.
Bottom line: this should not be dictated by the government. Also, I agree that this most current discussion is a ploy to get voters off track & steer votes to Obama.
