Barrow County’s engineering manager announced Tuesday night that the Georgia Department of Transportation has programmed funds to start building the West Winder Bypass in 2017. Darrell Greeson made the announcement during a presentation of an engineering contract to the Barrow County Board of Commissioners.
He told the Barrow Journal afterwards that GDOT has committed funding for right-of-way acquisition and construction of the first two of three phases of the project even if the regional referendum on a proposed penny sales tax for transportation does not pass in July.
