An issue that has plagued the Barrow County Airport Authority and its longest-term tenant for the past three years may soon be resolved. At its Feb. 21 meeting, the authority and Romanair, the airport fixed base operator, tentatively agreed to a compromise that would solve a back rent issue first brought to light in late 2009.
The authority and Romanair representative Drew Mancini discussed the option of granting Romanair a 25-30 year lease in exchange for Romanair agreeing to pay up to half of the $23,140 in back rent Barrow County billed Romanair for, after an audit was performed late last year. Romanair has made the consistent case that the back rent is not due. When push came to shove at the Oct. 2011 and Nov., 2011 authority meetings, both parties agreed litigation was not the course to take.
