Braselton park and ride lot to close on Friday, March 2

An existing park and ride lot in Braselton will be permanently closed on Friday, March 2, to make way for a widening project at the intersection of Ga. Hwy. 211 and Ga. Hwy. 124.

The Georgia Department of Transportation said the park and ride lot will become part of the reconstructed intersection in Barrow County. CW Matthews Contracting, Inc. is revamping the intersection for $5.2 million and work is slated to be completed on April 30, 2013.

The construction project — which is under way — will include right and left turn lanes on each leg of the intersection. Dual left turn lanes will be built on Ga. Hwy. 124 east toward Interstate 85 and on Ga. Hwy. 211 south toward Braselton. Two through lanes and sidewalks will be built for Ga. Hwy. 211 and Ga. Hwy. 124.

New signal equipment will be installed and allow the traffic signals at the nearby I-85 ramps to be times with the signal at the intersection of Ga. Hwy. 124 and Ga. Hwy. 211.

Car-poolers who use the park and ride lot in Braselton are encouraged to use the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority’s Park and Ride Lot in Hamilton Mill, behind Walmart. That lot has 925 spaces for commuters.

It was Packed Full EVERYDAY, Why is no-one raising cain about this?? Why is it not being moved up the street about 1000 feet as the original plan was? Call the DOT, Call your legislator, Why should we have to go to Gwinnett? That defeats the purpose of "Park & Ride" Hello??

The Original Plan was to MOVE it about 1500 feet down GA211 closer to Winder, so the intersection could be expanded, but also Because the DOT SOLD the Land to RaceTrac Gas Station for Profit. WE NEED IT BACK Near 211 & I-85 PERIOD, Help us Fight for it! Call your Legislator, Commissioners, the DOT and complain, we are just as important as Gwinnett!

It is not the state's responsibility to provide a place for you to park your private car. I agree with very little the DOT does, but eliminating a state parking lot would be one of them.

The STATE Promotes "PARK & RIDE" this is a way to aliviate Traffic, Promote the Ride Share Program, Save Fuel, Save Air Pollution, the State is Mandated to improve air quality. Your Tax Dollars already pay for the GRTA Buses. You don't commute, I can see.

What I see is 2 people commenting:

1.(#1.1.1.1 Uhhh Not so fast)- A person whose comments are about the topic and trying to save our Park & Ride. I have commuted myself for years, 1 less car, not to mention 30+ from that lot is a great thing.
2. (#1.1.1.1.1 Anonymous)- A person whose only contribution is to be jerk and spelling police, so why are you here? You added nothing, you are the pollution here.

Spelling and grammatical errors indicate that the post-er is uneducated. Such vulgarity undermines the force of the argument. Thus, the label of pollution is relevant.
BTW, does the violation 'comma splice' mean anything to you? [pause]

And it's completely fine with me that the so-called Park & Ride was closed.
Take responsibility for your own vehicle, and stop the pitiful whining about your arduous commute.

I am curious what your beef is? You seem to exist here to boost your own self-esteem by critiquing others grammar, like that somehow makes you relevant. I agree with the above, it just makes you the jerk here.

If you are opposed to Park & Ride lots, why, who knows? Fine. The others probably use it and will miss it, and hopefully get it back. You completely missed everyone's point above. So you have better spelling skills, but lack comprehension, understanding or compassion.

FYI: the Park & Ride was there Long Before Braselton was, then it was the Barrow Park & Ride (still was until Monday).
We get short-changed again by the DOT.....

Although that park & ride lot is ALWAYS full, I'm in favor of this. That intersection definitely needs an overhaul. Traffic gets backed up on 211 going into Brazelton in the mornings because it is not timed with the I85 light.

At least the Hamilton Mill lot is a close alternative.

Again, If I got to get on the Interstate, and drive 5 miles to another county, get off on a much busier road now, I might as well keep going, it defeats the purpose! The State owns the land 1500 ft farther down, pave the freakin new lot!! Park-Ride has nothing to do with the traffic, the lights are not timed properly Again...

The DOT does not care about commuters...Heck, they ran a church off that had been there for over 100 yrs to build a fast food restaurant...THEY DONT CARE!!! Soon you will be able to HAVE IT YOUR WAY why cruizin' the cemetary
