Final election results:

Barrow County BOC Chairman

Doug Garrison 1,600

Danny Yearwood 2,542

District Attorney: Barrow County Results

Donna Sikes 1,395

Brad Smith 2,717*

Smith was also the overall winner in the Piedmont Circuit.

Right about now, fear should be creeping into the Barrow Commissioners and other elected officials not up for re-election this year. A clean sweep of officials wasting money for a new jail while homeowners witness property values decrease, anonymously placing the Ten Commandments for taxpayers to pick up the tab due to resulting litigation, purchasing property without justification, and the list is long.

Now, let us see if our newly elected officials will live up to their campaign promises to cut wasteful spending or if we wasted our vote on empty promises again!

The voters have spoken and should be a wake up call to all incumbents planning to run in 2 years -- that includes the BOE. Get busy and find out what the voters want.

We'll see - maybe Mr. Yearwood can run the county the way he seems to have run other businesses - non-existently?

Anonymous too, My name is Chris Smith. How about having some guts and put your name on your comments.It appears from your various comments you should be running for office but opps I forget you can't do that and remain hidden and Anonymous too. Those that choose to serve can't remain Anonymous and I believe that if you feel strongly enough to make comments you need to forgo the Anonymous title. Stop Hiding or is it possible you are serving in office now or at least until Jan. 1st.

Good, I'm especially glad to see Garrison out. Hopefully now we'll have some sort of progress with regards to what the voters and taxpayers of Barrow need.

As far as the DA election, Sikes immediately lost my vote the minute she began mudslinging. Not to mention the fact that she has zero criminal law experience. That's not to say that we won't be watching the DA's office now, and I hope that this is not going to turn into an opportunity to bring back people into that office that were let go for a reason. The "old way" of handling criminal cases and victims does not work and has not for a long time here in Barrow. Let's see some effective and positive change from these candidates.

At least 61% of those who chose to vote yesterday agreed it was time for a change in the chairmans office. The elected officials who promoted their own agenda's have been voted out. The Tax Payers in Barrow County don't need to let down their guard now. Remember the current group of self servers stay in office until Jan.1st. They have already left the tax payers a $15 million dollar bond bill plus who knows what else. Mr Yearwood is going to need our support and prayers as he takes on this new challenge. If you don't like the out come of the elections tuff, the citizens who chose to exercise their right to vote have spoken loudly and now is the time to move forward with a fresh and hopefully new vision.
