Community event at WBMS on Thursday

Barrow County Schools will host a community event Thursday from 9-11 a.m. at Winder-Barrow Middle School. The Feb. 23 event will be open to the public and will include a question and answer period with Barrow School superintendent Wanda Creel. Winder-Barrow Middle School is located at 163 King Street in Winder. To R.S.V.P. to the event, or more information, call 770-867-2116.

How convenient...the hours are during normal business hours of everyone else. I guess Dr. Creel is hoping no one can show up because we have to work. Why not have it after 5pm?? so the community can be more involved.

if you cared about your kids schooling then you would find a way to be there.Maybe you should get yourself a husband that can provide for you and yours and you would be free to do the things that truly matter with your children.

I do have a husband. I have a wonderful family and I love them dearly. I am very involved in all their activities, But in today's economy I WORK. So does a lot of other people. You don't see them having a PTO meeting at 11am?? The City doesn't have Council meetings at 9:30am because they WANT the community input. This is just Dr. Creel way of not having to deal with the parents. It's just an EASY OUT for her.
BY THE WAY DEBBIE, I PLAN ON BEING THERE,I just hope other parents who arent as fortunate as you can turn out.

Debbie, that comment is ignorant and insensitive on so many levels. We do not live in the era of Leave it Beaver or Father Knows Best. The reality is, many women today manage to have rewarding careers that allow them not only to be fully present and active in their children's lives, but to support them without relying on a husband's income. In addition, as "working mom" points out, in this economy it often takes two salaries to provide a family with enough income to live comfortably. This in no way means they are not as involved in their children's lives as non-employed mothers. Mothers who work, whether by choice or by necessity, are no more negligent with their children, than are stay-at-home moms. There are plenty of stay-at-home moms, with husbands, who are so busy with their own agendas, they have little time for their children. Perhaps you need to get out into the real world more often.

With Creel I don't think it matters weather you are there or not. I think you are right easy way out for her and she only listen to herself anyway. That’s why the system is in such a mess. Maybe you will get lucky (or not)and she will sing to you..... lol

I did stay home and cook, clean and.... now I have a house full of kids I need to pay for, therefore I am a working mother....I guess I could stop working and go on welfare and let EVERYONE else pay for my kids...
