WSB reported Wednesday that Barrow County jail inmate Jamie Hood is requesting to be moved to another facility. Hood is being held in Barrow County pending the trial for the murder of Athens-Clarke County police officer Elmer “Buddy” Christian and wounding another officer in March 2011.
But Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith said Wednesday that Hood isn't being mistreated as he claims and just wants special treatment.
“What I know at this point is that he wants to be moved to DeKalb County,” Smith said Wednesday over the telephone. “He just doesn't like our facility... he's not getting his way. He will have to understand that we have rules. The bottom line is that he is laying a game at this point. Every minute he gets out and goes to Clarke County for cases, it is a show and a game. He's no different than any other person that we house.”
Smith said he made a deal with Athens-Clarke County Sheriff Ira Edwards to swap another inmate, accused Barrow County wife-killer Jim Lynn, with Hood. The swap apparently was due to a familial relationship with a Barrow County Sheriff's Office employee.
As to whether Hood has any medical condition like WSB reports he said he did, Smith said, “He has no reported medical condition to us. I can verify it, but there is no medical condition.”
An Athens judge is considering Hood's request following a Feb. 15 hearing. Until that decision is made, Hood is back in Barrow County custody.
Smith said he believes that because Hood is locked down 23 hours a day in Barrow County, he thinks that if he moves to DeKalb, he'll be treated differently.
“That's what it is boils down to,” said Smith. “We don't ‘celebritize’ anyone in our facility. He perceives that that is what he will get in DeKalb.”
"troglodytes" a solitary person who lives alone, especially somebody who is antisocial or unconventional
Yep, you hit it on the head, HOOD is definitely a Troglodyte. Lynched is to human and civil for this killer. #3.1, you hit it on the head, great post
Let's try a complete definition, shall we?
trog·lo·dyte
[trog-luh-dahyt]
noun
1. a prehistoric cave dweller.
2. a person of degraded, primitive, or brutal character.
3. a person living in seclusion.
4. a person unacquainted with affairs of the world.
5. an animal living underground.
Now, you tell me which sense of the word I meant when I used it.
Hint: caveman, i.e., a primitive character.
If the cries for blood made right here don't qualify as troglodytes, then I suppose the Barrow county citizens are among the most cosmopolitan and enlightened in this hemisphere.
Hat's off to the sheriff on this one.
I guess since someone hurts the Sheriffs thin skin it is OK if the law is violated by him?
the newspaper may be different unless they are the employer releasing an employees or future or applicants medical information. then they would be violating Hipaa
On this one, I applaud Sheriff Smith. Prisoners should not dictate to the authorities.
Hoods argument appears to have not merit at all, he is complaining about conditions at the new modern Barrow Jail here, but specifically wants sent to DeKalb??? Yea, Right.
He wants to be in DeKalb so he can be a "Hero Prisoner" for being a Cop Killer.
For the record the Lynn & Hood cases were not even swap outs, we took Hood for Clarke Co and then later when Lynn was arrested for murder, they in turn for similar reasons, held him there for us. Good Job Again by Jud Smith, maintaining working relationship with neighboring Clarke County.
I still think Jud should re-think his unnecessary sneaky black on black cars, think about public perception of his agency, make better choices in this area, BUT I will give him Credit he deserves for his good decisions as Sheriff.
I will say that the "regular" marked cars are just fine (grey or gold) and appreciate that he kept the same look, so having different colors, the design still seems consistent, well identified, good job on that. I want the bad guys to see a strong visible force and a better message to the citizens. I just say one thing; keep doing the "right things" and DON'T FORGET WHO you work for Sheriff Smith.
Good Job.
LMBO at you Mr. B
