Yearwood has angry confrontation with Worley, BOC

Barrow County Commission Chairman Danny Yearwood over the past week has put on public display the temper that he is known for. Last Thursday, after becoming frustrated over a Winder employee’s report to a council committee, he stormed out of a city meeting and slammed the door on his way out.

Tuesday night, he confronted a citizen who during the public comment portion of a county meeting expressed her opposition to the upcoming T-SPLOST referendum. Yearwood also had a confrontation with his own board over Sheriff Jud Smith's right to buy a new vehicle, an issue that led to an angry exchange between the chairman and commissioner Steve Worley after the meeting had ended.

The full BOC had voted with Worley in support of the sheriff. Smith later said the issue was political on Yearwood's part.

BOC is costing the County more then its worth...

The damage done to the county is more then incident's cost today. How is the county to attach the type of commerce (beyond fast food chicken) when the county's government looks and acts more like dysfunctional family on its way to the back set of the sheriff's patrol car for domestic violence.

I desparately want changes to our traffic issues around Winder & Atlanta area (including Gwinnett), I have personally lobbied for some of the proposed projects

BUT I am NOT voting Yes on the TSPLOST because the state is raping us on every turn now, I-85 HOT Lanes, Fees on top of fees and the DOT seems to want to only help people GO AROUND or THRU Barrow County and DOT Leaders don't seem to care about the Citizens of Barrow's Needs.

Plus the history of bad spending is costing us billions, making DOT cronies millions. GA316 is a prime example: Should have been Limited Access highway from Day 1, they knew it, took short cuts and now we pay billions to fix the intersections, not to mention the lost lives.

So I guess Danny will be tracking me down and confronting me too??

I say DOT, Pick one Either HOT Lane TAX or TSPLOST, Decide which tax you want. NOT BOTH!

Yearwood needs an old fashion a$$ whipping. Looks like he never had any dicipline as a child. A little tough love across the back of the head would do him a world of good.

Why put the Sheriff's cars in the budget if you were not going to buy them. It has been proven over and over that you can drive a new vehicle cheaper than you can drive one with 150K miles on it.

Bottom line, Yearwood is just an idiot and needs to step down and stop making a fool out of himself and our county.

The sheriff thinks he should be given a blank check to spend tax dollars. Doesn't work that way. Glad the chairman stands up to him. Hard to do considering how the Good Old Barrow Boy Network has several "Smiths" in it.

The Tahoe is being paid for by your local drug dealers, not taxpayers. Its called a seizure account. Didnt cost us a dime. The BOC has NO say in how that money is spent. By law it has to be used for law enforcement purposes ONLY. Equipment, training etc. Only thing it cannot be used for is salaries. By county policy, anything purchased over a certain amount has to be brought before the BOC. Even so, they CANNOT tell Sheriff Smith how to spend this money. Yearwood just doesn't like the fact that he has NO say in this matter so he's crying about it. I would vote for Micky Mouse before I ever thought about voting for YEARWQOOD .....Ever notice that most of the news on the BOC is about Yearwood...Hmmm should tell you something.

Never have agreed with Yearwoods choice to show his butt. But he does have a backbone. And he will watch out for the citizens tax dollars unlike the former chairman. Ive got to go purchase a paper and read the "rest of the story". But I can assure you that many of the cars would have many less miles on them if they werent driven to all parts of the surrounding area. And dont take me to task on
" oh they only go 20 miles or less from the court house" thats horse bunk. And I support Jud but everything he always asks for isnt justfied in the name of public safety, he is accountable just like any other dept. And we'd have a plenty to spend on new cars if we'd cut back on staff at the new courthouse. We damn sure don't need 5-6 people watching me take off my belt and empty my pockets. Lastly, Im taking the bait as usual, but our good ole legal county organ paints Danny as a villian once again. How long til our new Mayor starts getting the business from the media. Was there nothing positive to write about this week? How bout the granite hotel bites the dust to make way for progress in the downtown. Maybe just maybe something good will take its place. But my moneys on some monument to honor what "was". For gods sake can we find one positive in this county and write about it.

When is this paper going to stop being pro Jud Smith and start just reporting the news. As a Republican, it sickens me to see a so called Republican sheriff spending and wasting money. I am not a Yearwood supporter either, but he has a valid gripe. I mean really, Jud says all 73 deputies are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week? Then he wants more vehicles. Tell me Jud lovers, why a Tahoe? Maybe he will give it to his major that works 20 hours a week, yet gets paid for 40 hours a week and has a charger just sitting at his home. Barrow Journal start reporting the news objectively instead of being pro-Jud and anti-Yearwood.

I'm not sure what's going on in the sheriff's department these days...

From what I can tell, deputies have lost discipline and respect for the community under the "leadership" of Sheriff Jud. Some of the deputies are refusing to make arrests that should be made when citizens call for help. It seems as if the department has its own agenda and if they're not interested in helping you, then don't count on them helping you if you call.

Watching the BOC meeting on Ch. 21. I think Peggy Chaney did a FABULOUS job with her presentation to the BOC. I feel that she did her homework and was quite well-spoken. She planted some questions in my mind.... I plan to do my homework on this issue, as she did. I am quite embarrassed by the behavior of Danny Yearwood toward Mrs. Chaney. What has happened to common courtesy and professionalism from our government leaders? I am ashamed to admit that I regretfully voted for this man. I am ashamed to admit that I am born and raised here, in this county that makes embarrassing headline news each week. Why must we be "The Twilight Zone?" What will it take to move us forward? I am genuinely concerned.....

Veteran teacher-What will it take to move us forward? Vote Danny boy out. Citizens when you vote become informed. Look at the records of who is running. What have they accomplished in the community and what they can contribute to Barrow County. Someone who is immature and whose only job was selling lemons. when he was elected to a high position either believes he is the smartest person or is so afraid of dealing with people who are better educated and more intelligent than he is.

For those who remember Mr. Yearwood stated during his run for office(on several occasions)that he would run the county like a business.. Could be that's why he has failed! Poeple who know will tell you that can't happen. A business is run by a single head of the company. A government is run by the people.In Barrow county those people are not afforded the privlege of doing that and the comission foe the most part seem to be ineffective in opposing the chairman.Mr. Yearwood would do well to remember his position is not a business owner but ELECTED official of Barrow county answerable TO THE PEOPLE!!!!
