A 17-year-old Winder man was arrested last week after he allegedly stabbed a 45-year-old man outside of their place of work. According to a Winder Police Department incident report, an officer was dispatched to Barrow Regional Medical Center in reference to a victim with a stab wound and found the victim lying in a hospital bed with a stab wound approximately 1-2 inches wide.
Robert J. Cooper, 17, of 1523 Bird Hammon Road, turned himself into police later that day after the Feb. 4 incident. Apparently, the victim called Cooper’s sexual orientation into question and Cooper attempted the stab him in the parking lot of David Trapp Sales on East May Street in Winder.
Two witnesses attested to the victim’s account of the incident – that Cooper and the victim were joking in the parking lot when (the victim) told Cooper “that he was gay,” the report states, and “… before he knew it (the victim) had been stabbed…”
Cooper was charged with one count of aggravated assault and taken to the Barrow County jail.
