Gwinnett County fire authorities are trying to determine the cause of a fire that left one person dead Saturday night at the 1900 block of Flowery Branch Road in Auburn.
According to Gwinnett County public information officer Eric Eberly, firefighters were dispatched to the scene just before 8 p.m. Feb. 4.
Crews found a fully-involved residential fire of a two story Cape Cod style home on arrival. Firefighters learned of an entrapment in the house and crews immediately entered the residence to search for anyone inside.
An adult male victim was pulled from the front hallway. He was turned over to Gwinnett Firefighter Paramedics were he was treated and transported to Gwinnett Medical Center.
The first victim informed the rescuers of a second victim still inside the home. Fire crews again entered the blaze to look for another person. The second victim was found unresponsive in a front bedroom on the floor.
Firefighters removed the victim from the dangerous environment only to realize that she had already died from her injuries. No firefighters were injured. Crews are still on the scene performing overhaul operations. The home received extensive damage and is a total loss. The exact cause of death and circumstances surrounding the fire are undetermined and under active investigation by the fire department.
