Lampp, Goodman look at runs for District 1 BOC seat

Four months before candidates can even qualify to run in Barrow County’s 2012 elections, a contest for the District 1 seat on the Barrow County Board of Commissioners already has taken shape.

In the wake of Commissioner Larry Joe Wilburn’s official announcement that he intends to give up the seat, two candidates have emerged.

Jerry Lampp, who held the seat until 2009, said he likely would run because he wants to continue to help the county.

Joe Goodman, who was appointed by Lampp to the Barrow County Planning Commission five years ago, said last week that he too would run against him.

we dont need to trade the problems of the present for the problems of the past, which in some large measure helped to bring about the problems of the present.Voters of district 1 ; just say ,not just no but hell no to lamp.He had his chance, he bungled it, he does not deserve another.

I would not vote for Jerry Lampp if he were the ONLY candidate. He did a horrible job when he held the office & was a participant in the SPEND, SPEND, SPEND mentality of the past administration. I do not personally know Joe Goodman but have watched him in several Planning Board meeting - he was always prepared & had studied each issue before the board, giving voice to his sound decisions based on the WRITTEN guidelines of the county. He never hesitated in explaining his decisions & for that I admire him. We would be better served by Commissioners who voice the reasons for their decisions instead of just voting Yea or Nay in their quest to take revenge on one or the other.

Jarry Lampp has shown his contempt of private property rights last time in power... Why wouldn't he do the same NOW?

His actions cost the county (YOU) more then a Million Dollars. Why would you want to give him the chance to make more money of the county (YOU)?

Voters and tax payers check out parcel xx106 119 on the county tax map owned by Jerry D Lampp Family LP and listed with Doug Garrison as the realtor. Mr Lampp needs to elected again to protect his hard work and investments from his prior service to the county. Just a thought to consider before you cast your vote.

In this article, it said Godman "was appointed by Lampp to the Barrow County Planning Commission five years ago".

If they are friends, this might be a ploy to make sure one gets elected and then it would not matter who one, because the one who is elected will look out for the other ! So another person needs to run for this seat

I agree. It could be just like what happened with the airport authority. Nocera appointed Barton and Barton appointed Hang. And they all drinking buddies with Yearwood.

Partly correct. Yearwood appointed them all. The others can't appoint...Yearwood appointed them all for the at large seats.

I serve on the planning commission with Joe. He is his own man, and will represent District 1 well. Yes, Jerry Lampp originally appointed him to the Planning Commission, but Larry Wilburn reappointed him when he was elected to the County Commission. Your conspiracy theory is all wet.

I'm not sure what "record" you are referring to, but this is America, and you are free to vote for whomever you please. BTW, saying that Joe would represent District 1 well wasn't an endorsement, but an opinion. He's a good man.

Im sure he might be a "good man", but Danny Yearwood is a nice guy too, but not for the county.

There is a saying we all know "You are known by the company you keep" and if Goodman is his own man, it will be hard im sure for us to believe that, when the man who appointed him is running also, so I would error on the side of caution and anyone associated with former and some current BOC commissioners, I would not vote for.

I was thinking the same thing. You are nothing but a puppet who does/votes however he is told. Why in the world would I vote for someone endorsed by you, appointed by Dumbwood or Lampp and is a member of the GOB?

We want NEW blood, EDUCATED people and by educated I mean something more than WBHS GRADS.
We want people who moved into the area and haven't been here their entire lives.

I guess I'm one of the "Good Ole Boy's" you all bash. I was born here, educated here, my family lived here when Barrow County didn't even exist. I get really tired of hearing how terrible we are. Well, let me tell ya'll something. We love our county and cities. We love our alma maters. We grew up here and stayed here because it was and is a great place to live. Some of us have done great things for the cities and county. We don't constantly bash it or the people who are trying to make it a better place. As in all cases, there are some mistakes that have been made. But remember, when you are pointing a finger at someone, you have three pointing back at yourself. Maybe ya'll need to look in the mirror and ask yourself "What have I done to make this a better place to live?"

Well, I have "Barra County Edumacation" as you call it. I also have alittle more education at much higher level. You just need to be educated on a few things, we do get it. Perhaps, you don't get it. WE OWN THIS COUNTY, WE MAKE THE RULES, ALWAYS HAVE, ALWAYS WILL. Maybe you should consider moving as you can do nothing about it. Get a transplant elected, that is fine, we will pay him off and will then just have a "transplant" puppet. Deal with it or move.

And here in lies the problem. We "own" this county. We "make" the rules. Last I checked Barrow County hadn't ceded from Georgia or the US. I'm sure you would like to. I'm sure you would like to turn the clock back to 1940s and 50 so you can keep us in our place, but this is 2012 and we the "new comers" and "unwanted' people will rule this election

look for a third candidate spoiler to show up at the last minute to ensure one of these 2 will be elected 3rd candidate will get enough votes to force a run off. problem will be that the 2 guys no one wants will be in the run off to be elected. actually a good strategy to ensure a win. 50% + 1 vote takes it. better start lining up votes now if you don't like what's coming. same in d2.brown vs.elder + 2 more last minute folks. then add anderson, and you have a run off and elder or brown or anderson wins it. pretty slick plan by the gob crowd.
