Suspect caught on camera driving stolen car

A Barrow County sheriff’s deputy knew who he was looking for Jan. 22 after a Chevrolet Cavalier had been reported missing from an Auburn Dollar General store parking lot — the suspected car thief was caught on video taking the car from the parking lot.

According to a Barrow County Sheriff’s Office incident report, Kevin Brown, 49, of 274 King St., Winder, was arrested on one felony count of theft by receiving stolen property and two parole violation warrants.

Dollar General employees and Auburn Police were able to look at the video of the suspect driving the car —who they identified as Brown because of he left the store to return some items prior to getting in the car.

When the deputy saw a man that met Brown’s description walking from Venture Way on toward Bush Chapel, he stopped him and asked him for his name and driver’s license. Brown gave the deputy his license. When the deputy asked Brown where the car was that he was driving, Brown said it was down at the trailer on Venture Way.

Brown was placed in handcuffs and told he was not under arrest, but that he was being detained while further investigation could be conducted. The deputy placed Brown in his patrol car and drove him back to 176 Venture Way where the car was located.

Asked where the keys to the car were, Brown said they were in his right front pocket. The deputy removed the keys with Brown’s consent and tried to car. The deputy then made contact with the homeowner at 176 Venture Way to find out who drove the car to the residence.

Two male subjects told the deputy Brown drove the car to the residence. When the deputy ran the males’ identities through central communications, Andrew Lee Rogers, 38, of 5846 Rainbow Road, Cochran, returned with two parole warrants.

When the deputy ran the vehicle through central communications, it returned as stolen out of Winder. Brown additionally was wanted by parole and probation. Winder Police was contacted and the vehicle was towed to the Winder Police Department by Brown's Towing service. Brown and Rogers were taken to Barrow County Detention Center.

please just dont tell me that the camera revealed that mr. brown was in fact black. Im tired of seeing all the negative stereo types about black people being crimminals.if people had more then they wouldnt half to resort to stealing cars and stereo equipment.how come we never here about mr. white getting caught stealing a camera or a car?

I think its racist when the cops only go after the blacks for doing the same as the whites. we are the ones that are filling up the jails but not the only ones doing the crimes, thats a statistic look it up.whie people do the same crimes as black people but its the blacks that get caught and do all the time.and then the news people keep reporting it making it look bad on the black peoples part.

HE WAS CAUGHT ON CAMERA!!! Who cares if he was black, white or purple. Police dont just go after black people, they go after the ones who commit the crime, in this case a black male who was CAUGHT ON CAMERA. Your the one making this a race thing. nobody else. As far as "whie people do the same crimes as black people but its the blacks that get caught and do all the time" Maybe it because these white criminals are smart enough to get away with it. Your not making your race look good by posting this crap. Especially with your spelling and grammer.

being "caught on camera" dont mean anything. have you ever watched tv/? have you ever seen how they cut and spilce tv shows tigether.what i want to see is an equal distribution of the law among the races. if its all the blacks well ok but I know it aint.

Tv? Cutting and splicing? Are you for real. Where would the security tape from Dollar General be tampered with. Don't think they took the security tape and just picked out a black customer to put on it. Your argument has no logic or merit and shows your lack of thought. Not making yourself look too good

Someones always has to play the race card. Forget the fact that he stole a car from someone. What, the suspect is black so we need to feel sorry and let him go.Give me a break. Who cares what color he was, he stole and got caught. Whats the problem here. Gotta love the whole tampering with video tape. Not suprised though, there is always an excuse or crazy defense on why someone did what they did when they get caught.

Im not the nutty one here. all I was trying to say is that Im tired of the police and newspapers and everybody always going after the black people when itsd the whites who do just as much crime and in fact are the true masterminds of crimminality. just look at the mafia you dont see too many brothers in there do you>? Andy your damn right they could have spliced that tape at the dopllar store. they already proved that they dont like the black people and favor the white over all with there pricing and there name. They call themselves the dollar store but find me somethingin there that just cost a dollard, and then they want us to pay the phiony whitey tax on top of it.

Ohhh so now the Dollar Store raises the prices for the black customers only. Your are certainly not the brightest bulb on the tree are you. ( I am sure you wont get that, I will explain if have too)

So all of the mafia was white. and, your point. So aren't most of the serial killers in recent history. just means that black criminals either arent too smart too commit big crimes or they just resort to selling the drugs, and look at the stas, yes more african americans are in jail and prison for selling drugs then white people. Hmm must mean something. The reason the police go after the black criminals is because they are commiting the crimes, jusy like white people. They commit crime, they go to jail. easy as 1,2,3
