Three downtown bank buildings formerly owned by The People’s Bank in Winder are going on the auction block in five weeks.
The bank properties, along with 29 developed lots in the Pinnacle Oaks subdivision, are among 50 Georgia properties that are to be sold by Alabama-based J.P. King Auction Co. Inc. at noon Saturday, March 3.
The public sale will take place at the Renaissance Atlanta Waverly Hotel, 2450 Galleria Parkway, in Atlanta. Information is available at www.jpking.com.
The auction is being held on behalf of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, which has held the unsold Winder bank properties since Georgia banking regulators shut People’s doors in September 2010.
Community & Southern Bank bought most of the former bank’s properties, but did not purchase the four-story headquarters buildings at 71 North Broad St., the adjacent two-story building at 75 North Broad St., or the newer operations center at 25 E. Midland Ave.
This would be how the community wins.
I hope the City Council doesn't want to tear these all down too....
The other buildings, I would need to see a valid plan to make them a productive gain for the city and community before I would want money spent on those.
Note: I cut and Pasted this from the other article, so sue me.
Oh wait - forgot this is Barrow - home of the GOB. Never mind, we already have enough class envy
