Two more Barrow County officials have announced their 2012 re-election plans. Commissioner Larry Joe Wilburn confirmed that he is out and will vacate his District 1 seat at the end of this year. Commissioner Steve Worley said he is in and wants to serve District 3 another four years.

The unexpected announcements came at the end of a Jan. 19 committee meeting.

“I’m running again,” Worley said suddenly. “I am serious. I’m going to run again.”

From across the table Wilburn then said: “I believe in term limits. I made my statement months and months and months ago. I’ve enjoyed what I’ve done here, but I came in planning to serve one term.”

Thank you "I Abstain" Wilburn for doing the right thing for Barrow. Now we need a Educated Qualified Person to step up to the plate and not another Under Educated, Inbred, Backwooded GOB.

Hope they have some good, honest, hard working individuals that want to run for office and make a positive impact on Barrow County. . It seems it is all about what they want to do in Barrow County is their priority and not what the citizens want.

I think a team that has leaders like Steve Worley, and Pat Graham is exactly what the doctor has ordered! I worry that some of the has beens will return to the seats held by Larry Joe and Eva. Lamp and Brown were neck deep in creating our current mess, putting them back on the BOC would be a huge mistake.

District 1 County Commissioner needs to be a leader that will represent District 1 and understand that Winder is not the only city in Barrow County. Anybody have Robert Bridges number?

Are you sworn to secercy or something? Or are you running and just won't say it? Youre anonymous and know soneone is running yet won't reveal it? Gotta call your bluff on that one.

Yep. I am sworn to secrecy. I do know who's intents to run. They see no reason to announce until the qualifying period opens and I understand their reasoning.

Vote'em out! All incumbents has to go. We have to try and save this county. And we sure do not want to re-elect any ex politicians.

only have two votes for commissioner next election. 1. Your district commissioner only and 2. commission chairman. Makes no difference how much you dislike a perticular incumbent...you can't vote them in or out.

Wow, I bet you are a rocket scientist. When we talk about voting all incumbents out. It is at every election. Not all at once. It will happen over a four year period.

Steve Worley has done a good job and deserves another term.

As a non-native, he seems to strike a nice balance between the crowd that's been in this community forever and those who are new to the area. He also has real experience after working as a director for the city of Monroe. Don't make the mistake of lumping him with the other group of closed-minded commissioners.

Anyone else who decides to run better be educated or have darn good experience that is relevant to the position or I won't vote for them.

STEVE is gonna turn Barrow County into a thug haven if he keeps trying to cut public safety budgets. Have you driven through Monroe lately? That is exactly what Mr. Worley wants Barrow County to look like. If he gets his way Barrow County Jail will have a daily jail population as big as Walton County does. We will be paying to house prisoners at Oconee County. Worley needs to go or learn to support the local law enforcement. Give those people a decent paycheck like they were promised. Give them the equipment they need. They don't need to drive cars with 150,000 miles on them.

It follows that the salary and expenses of the sheriff, the salaries of the deputies and the radio-equipped automobiles for their use constitute "action affecting [an] elective county office, the salaries thereof, or the personnel thereof," and that as such they are not subject to the jurisdiction of the county governing authority.
Therefore, the trial court properly granted both petitions for mandamus requiring the appellants(Hancock County Georgia Board of Commissioners) to provide the two radio equipped automobiles and to pay the salaries of the deputies and the additional automobile expenses demanded by the sheriff.

There have been some who have run for BOC and BOE who were not elected,but had better vote numbers than expected. Will any of those folks consider a try for open seats? We need choices to ensure Barrow is represented well versus GOB's only.

As in all counties there are 2 parties ( and some more that are not a formally recognized group;But are concerned citizens)I am one of those other people .... I vote quality not party.I am writing in support of Mr. Jerry Lampp;who is running for his old districy seat.I know there are poeple who will strongly oppose him. However after 5 years almost daily discussion sessions I can tell you He is one of a few that I can truthfully say cares about his county and wants it to go in the right direction.... For those who differ in opinion you should be proud for voiceing your feelings, because that is what this country is all about, But please try to be factual. This is a key element in having a successful government.One based on truth!!!
