The two middle managers held responsible for the costly lapse of Barrow County’s 2011 license for emergency services are not facing additional disciplinary action.
Barrow County Commission Chairman Danny Yearwood in December directed emergency services chief Dennis Merrifield to “seriously consider” disciplinary action against employees who were jointly responsible for the lapsed license that cost the county about $159,000 in uncollectible ambulance fees.
But Merrifield already had given Deputy Chief John Skinner and EMS Officer Charles Savage verbal reprimands.
So instead of disciplining them a second time for the same issue, he had Skinner document Savage’s earlier reprimand and put the notice in his personnel file. Then Merrifield did the same for Skinner.
To be honest, I think it was probably sabatoge by Skinner and Savage. New guy comes in and takes over the department...old guys mad they did not get the job...we'll fix him, let him figure it out by himself. I ain't gonna tell him the license is due.
Yup! I see it now, the back bitting and back stabbing...so typical in a government run department.
Before you start defending Skinner and Savage, then ask yourself why neither of them told the new Chief the License was going to lapse.
