Former banker Chris Maddox on Tuesday will attend his first meeting as a newly appointed member of the Winder Downtown Development Authority.
The DDA will meet at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, at the Winder Community Center on East Athens Street.
At the authority’s first meeting of the year, members will discuss the authority’s goals for 2012; present plaques to outgoing members; elect new officers; discuss a job description for a potential DDA staff person; discuss city-sponsored events, and talk about Downtown Business District alcohol requirements.
Don Wildsmith, the director of the Winder Cultural Arts Center, also will make a presentation.
Unless you really know how the FDIC works the "Loss Share" program with these banks that they brought in to take over the smaller community banks, then you should not comment on Mr. Maddoxs' situation.
The FDIC allowed the Community and Southern Bank to come in after only being in business for 9 months and who has the lacks of George Soros and his ilk as an investor in that rapidly thrown together 3 billion dollar bank that t00k over The Peoples Bank.
I don't fault Mr. Maddor or The Peoples Bank. I fault your stupid federal government, FDIC, over regulating of community banks and the high rolling New York investors takin over all the local banks.
There were 64 other banks ahead of The Peoples Bank that were in much worse shape but because their assets and market share was so good, they allowed these new carpet baggers to go all the way down on the closing list to get The Peoples Bank... as long as they took a handful of the other worse off banks as well.
The FDIC and the "Loss Share" program is the worst thing your government has done to this country since the income tax. It is ruining local communities so that the fat cat investors can make millions.
Do I support Mr. Maddox on the DDA...damn right. Say what you want, but he and The Peoples Bank supported this community for decades. They put more money back into this community in 6 months than the new bank has since it took over.
How many of the former employees of the Peoples Bank are still there? Yeah..now how is that working out for our community?
I think that is how one can describe Obama.
As for what he has done for this community I can only say until other banks came into barrow county the only folks they ever did anything for was
The Maynard’s sure they put up signs at the high school and gave support to all the right things that gave them good print!!! But after all the smoke clears
We will see it for what it was like a heated and cooled building bought by the bank to store his mothers antiques in three 45ft truck loads had to be moved out!!!!
I am sure that is how to run a bank?
Fifteen years ago PB was something out of the 1950s, closed for half of Wednesdays, never open on Saturdays. Every part of the business seemed to declare, "I'm old, out of date, tired." Someone fixed that.
Downtown? Remember the ridiculous facade on the People's building? Someone spent money and fixed that. It's a great building now.
Chris Maddox isn't being asked to start a bank but to help downtown. He has demonstrated the skills to do that.
What a disgrace!
For his daddy to be such an honorable man, how did he become such a scumbag??
Still good ol boy politics alive and well in Winder.
Don't think I'll live long enough to see it ever change--------what a shame.
The failed progeny of former business leaders looking to make their mark no matter how much it cost the County.
The same failures doing everything they can to drive off any new small businessmen that remind them of their former parents drive, work ethic and self sacrifice.
Barrow's problem is deeper then the lack of a sewer.
