Yearwood may run again for chairman: ‘I may be fighting every day with the manager…’

Voters in 2011 may have gutted the salary and power of the next chairman of the Barrow County Board of Commissioners, but Chairman Danny Yearwood isn’t down for the count. Asked last week if he plans to run for re-election, Yearwood told the Barrow Journal that he is “still in limbo” but quickly added: “Somebody has got to stay there and keep this place in check… I don’t want it to go back where it was and into the mess I fixed; and we are going to let it go back there? I don’t know that I can.”

While voters on Nov. 8, 2011 decided by a margin of 2,305 to 1,534 to have a county manager start running the government’s day-to-day operations next January, Yearwood said if he were re-elected as the part-time chariman, he would not sit back and let the new administrator call the shots.

In his characteristically blunt style of communication, he said: “I may be fighting every day with the manager, and saying, ‘Hey, that sh*t ain’t going to work; we ain’t going to do that.’ I’m just going to say it like it is. He ain’t going to scare me. He ain’t going to tell me what to do or what to think.”

Yearwood couldn't be elected dog catcher. His defiant posture demonstrates that he cannot face the reality that he is a pariah. Try using some common sense, Danny boy, that is if you have any.

This response from Chairman Yearwood does not surprise me at all. His statement is consistent with his personal political management style, which has always been "My way or the highway".
Barrow County citizens had good reason to vote to make the Chairman's position part time and reduce the salary to $25K, and take away the veto power from the position. While many disagree with that decision, the majority of voters who bothered to show up for the vote have spoken.

Yearwood made the statement that he is not accountable to anyone. He thinks he can say and do whatever he wants and he doesn't care how much it cost the taxpayers of Barrow.

Yearwood is so arrogant to think that he can do as he had done in the past if he were re-elected. The idiot does not understand that the only power difference between him and any other commissioner will be that he will conduct the meetings. According to the new charter, he will have no say so other than to make policy with a majority of other commissioners.

I wonder if "STUPID" is a valid reason for a recall?...evidently not or he would have been recalled a long time ago.

Save your qualifying fee Yearwood...you "ain't" as you say, gonna be re-elected.

Yearwood for Chairman. I love it. I'll pay his qualifying fee. Save your speeches about the voting Duwayne, the people "voted" to give up their right to vote for change. Now you are gonna be stuck with infighting of a chairman and commissioners trying to have it their way. I truly feel for the person who gets the manager job. Unless of course he's a good ole boy. Yearwood is the obvious choice.

So what is new about Yearwood and his rants? Making this fail will not be at all hard to do, Making it work for the County will be hard with the GOB party in control. The current BOC have failed the County with an elected GOB Chairman just like the Garison, Elder GOBs before... Yearwood and his kind are more about killing anything that offends their sensibilities at any Cost. The next Chairman / BOC will have a hard job... They will have to grow the County to prove their worth.

Whatever happened with that lawsuite for sexual discrimination that was brought against him by county employees ? did that get settled quietly? 1.) Million to MARTA. Educate me on this one.
Drop in a bucket compared to Garrisons airport proerty purchase.

2.) Taxes paid in full. Good Ole boy builders bankrupted or flat didnt pay theirs.

3.) Lot cleaned up in Statham, little power struggle between Danny and Mayor Sandy McNab.
Yet we have to look at abandonded subdivisions or vacant industrial parks owned by fatcats, or buildings in downtown Winder Im afraid to walk in front of.

4.) Harrassment suits were all brought by employees that knew their days were numbered.
Yearwood innocent on all charges. Yet your knuckleheaded commissioners gave them a severance package.

5.) Sunday Sales - the sots and social upper class of Barrow Co. prevailed in this vote. At least the sots spend their money in town.

6.) Aint even gonna respond to the bulldozer.

You might be suprised how many votes ole Danny boy will get. Rest assured of one thing, if you think Barrow Co. government is a joke now, wait til the commissioners,their special interest buddies, and a puppet manager is in place. Danny is prbably in over his head and too stubborn to utilize resources he has at hand, hot headed and outright absurd at times, but hes done a good job and hes not a crook,or put us in debt like Garrison and Co. Laugh on folks you will cry later.

Right on TickedOff, he HAS done what he said he would do: "Cut Wasteful Spending" and in getting rid of the outrageous salaries of the "executives" he cut quite a bit from Barrow County's payroll. he also took a stand and cut positions that have long needed to be cut. Say what you want; Yearwood has worked HARD for this county, and for that he deserves respect and a thank You from the citizens of this county.
I think the rest of you are just jealous because you lack the intestinal fortitude that he has, or maybe you just don't look as good in a suit as he does! LOL LOL

Thats enough from you mrs. yearwood. The truth is that all those "big"salaries he cut were being made by people who knew what to do. The old saying that you get what you pay for is true . The truth is that yearwood has damaged the present and future of this county inways that peole like you cant even comprehend. It takes a long time for administrators to become competent and frugal, some of those he ran off were both and their abilities atill have not been replaced.November cant come soon enough, or maybe he will be gone in the primary in july, that would be even better.

He didn't run them off to cut the salary expense. He ran them off so he could have all the power to himself. You CAN NOT run the county like a sole proprietor used car lot.

Getting rid of the dead weight was a good thing he did; he erred in not replacing them with competent qualified people.

Of course his actions (rants, raves, storming out of meetings etc) showed his true colors soon enough

LOL. Thats exactly what mosts posts on this site are worthy of. Yours included. All they want to do is attack someone personally,point out grammatical errors, or call people "idiots". Yet seldom does anyone want to stick to the issues and debate on them. For instance, someone could take me to task about Dannys marta contribution, because I am admittedly uniformed. Yet you want to call me his mother or compare me to the likes of a murderers mother? Thats fine. Mothers love unconditionally, they may hate what their child did, his/her lifestyle, or how they act, but rest assured they still love 'em. And we wonder why the county is in the shape it is. If you and others like you would focus on issues as much as you do trying to insult and derail me we'd turn this thing around. Careful on the theology lesson. Please note that all verses you reference are old testament, which was under law, not grace. Many countries did and still do envoke those laws in certain cultures. New testament can better explain womens position biblically.(and don't freak out on me over the word position) We are talking framework of scriptures,and living in a day where these scriptures are thought to be ridiculous. Say what you will, but it was not all bad. He did get in there and roll back the incredibly bloated salaries of the county workers...espicially the executive class. He inherited the same kind of mess Obama walked into and to his credit, has done a lot to turn the county around financially. That said, would I vote for him again? I'm not so sure about that but it would depend on who's running. If it were Garison against Yearwood...I'll take Danny.

No, he did not roll back the incredibly bloated salareis of the county executives...he ran off all the executives. You know, the ones that had the experience in running government. Boy, where did that get us. It got us Yearwood and his anger management practices. The policy was...don't disagree with dumbwood or you will get run off. Yeah right, that has been real successful.

Just wonder where we would be now and how much better shape our county would be in if idiotwood had not ran off all the talent. There is a reason why you pay good experienced help a good salary. Maybe we would not be the laughing stock of the region had we kept a couple of those executives.

I am a 78 year old long-time church going man. I would vote for a qualified woman like Ms Graham over Yearwood any day. Drive around Barrow County and there is too much junk. Look at how nice the Braselton area looks and a lot of this happened on her watch. She brought class and businesses. Yearwood is a disgrace and should be ashamed of himself and go back to selling his junk/used cars. I pray for Barrow County and pray that good leadership comes to the county. We have a new mayor and now we need a new chairperson. God Bless Barrow County.

I think that Yearwood's ego maniacal "leadership" has damaged any hope he would ever have of getting more than a handful of votes. One doesn't have to look far to see the results of Yearwood's inability.
I see one of the biggest problems as being the pissing contest he has started with the Sheriff. Vast amounts of litter exist on our roadways, because Yearwood can't seem to figure out that Jud is an elected constitutional officer, and doesn't work for the BOC. I am sure that Jud wishes for a Chairman that has a brain, and would welcome a good working relationship with his department.

The only part of Barrow County Mrs. Graham knows about is Braselton. True she changed Braselton-turned it like Gwinnet. Most of the new residents in Jackson County moved from Gwinnet. Braselton was able to do all the things because of their police force patrolling I85. If she gets elected Barrow County deputies will be on I85. Wouldn't Barrow be served better by someone who knows all of Barrow, someone like Robert Bridges or the mayor of Auburn?
