One person is injured and a family of four is displaced following a structure fire Tuesday in Auburn. Communication Officers with Barrow County Emergency Services received a 911 call at 9:35 a.m. reporting the fire at 64 Main St.
Firefighters responded to the scene and found heavy smoke, according to a Barrow County Emergency Services press release.
“Firefighters found moderate fire in the backdoor of the home,” said Battalion Chief Mike Stoops. “They made an aggressive interior attack and extinguished the fire quickly. Firefighters were also able to save two puppies from the fire.”
One resident suffered injuries trying to extinguish the fire. “We want to remind all citizens that when there is a fire in your home, the safest thing to do is to leave,” said Lt. Scott Dakin. “Call 911 from outside the home. Fire is very dangerous and spreads very quickly which can result in injuries and death.”
Engines 4 and 7, Med 4 and 7 and Battalion 1 all responded to the scene. The American Red Cross was also called to assist the family. A family of four was displaced as a result of this fire.
The Fire Investigation Team investigated this fire and found it to be caused by a lint buildup in the clothes dryer. Citizens are also reminded to keep their dryers and lint traps clean between each use.
