Some changes are ahead for Winder’s residential garbage service. Beginning March 1, the city’s contractor will be Waste Management instead of Republic Services Inc., which owns the local landfill.
City customers at that time also will receive lidded, 96-gallon recycling carts with wheels to replace the 18-gallon open bins they now carry to the streets.
In addition, the company will use automated devices on the trucks to hoist both garbage and recycling carts; so customers will have to push both their garbage and recycling bins to within three feet of the curbs in front of their homes.
Along with the weekly garbage and recycling services, Waste Management under the new contract will take over from the city government the job of weekly collections of yard debris and monthly pickups of bulky household items such as furniture and appliances.
Customers soon will receive more detailed information about the changeover, according to city administrator Don Toms.

I hope this change is a SAVINGS to the CITIZENS and the CITY, AS well as IMPROVED SERVICES, not a Reduction from what is offered now.
NOTE: I think we need MORE CITIZEN INPUT, but most citizens are working, just trying to make it and many live here but WORK elsewhere, so I propose the CITY POST and LIST all of these "CHANGES" and "PROPOSED CHANGES" at least 1-3+ Weeks in advance on the City of Winder Website and set it up to ALLOW CITIZEN INPUT directly so the Council know what & how WE FEEL ABOUT THE ISSUE & OUR CONCERNS. More could partisipate, it is hard to reach these people sometimes, this would put our concerns & opinions ON THE RECORD.

Jobs always go to the lowest bidder. Go to http://barrowcitizenswatch.com/ for input. The county and city read this.
