Authorities have alerted media to a 911 “hoax” call for a suicide threat made from a residence in the Kendall Park subdivision in Winder Jan. 3.
In addition to deputies, a S.W.A.T. team responded to the call, which came out at 5:21 p.m. in reference to a person who had been shot, according to a Barrow County Sheriff’s Office press release. The caller reportedly said another person was on the scene threatening suicide.
Responding deputies arrived and secured the area around the home, the release states. Initial attempts at contacting anyone inside the residence were unsuccessful.
The Sheriff’s Office S.W.A.T. team responded and made contact with the homeowner, who exited the house voluntarily.
The house was searched and no injured persons were located inside.
There were neither firearms nor any evidence of a crime having taken place found inside the residence.
After further investigation it was determined the 911 call was a hoax.
As of Wednesday morning, the sheriff’s office said it is currently investigating the source of the prank. If located, the suspect will face criminal charges, according to the release.
Of the incident, Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith said according to the press release: “We take all 911 calls very seriously, especially those alleging violence and injuries. This hoax exploited county resources and caused undue alarm and inconvenience for the residents of Kendall Park.”
