Fifteen months after the forced resignation of Norma Jean Brown, Barrow County is about to fill her vacant post.

Michelle Thrasher, the benefits coordinator in charge of the HR department since Brown’s departure in October 2010, said Tuesday that the county has extended an offer to Charlie H. Felts, the HR director for Valdosta’s city government.

The offer is contingent on a Jan. 10 vote of the Barrow County Board of Commissioners.

Felts has been Valdosta’s HR director since April 2000, and has 22 years’ experience in human resources management in the public and private sectors.

Once again last man standing gets the job. Why is it Barrow can't hire and keep qualified employees?

How much do ya wanna bet that this guy took the job after agreeing to the salary but then will come back and ask for 15-20000 more.and the idiots in charge will give it to him.

If he has any brains at all, he would decline, there is no amount of money worth that job. At least until Danny is out of office.

There are two ways of looking at this:
1. No person in the county was qualified enough to hold the position and this man is the only one who meet such requirements.
2. Nobody else put in for it and he was the only person.

Either way, an outsider coming in might be a good thing for Barrow, keeps the local "good ole boys" mindset out and possibly move Barrow forward where we need to be. Then again, he could just be another "Yes" man

Or some very qualified folks do live in Barrow but are already employed and not willing to consider working with this management team.

It is my hope that our new H.R. director will be given the opportunity to actually perform the responsibilities of the position, without any unnecessary heavy handed political pressure from Chairman Yearwood. I am not holding my breath, but with the New Year approaching, anything is possible..................
