Death of 9-year county paramedic reported

Firefighter/paramedic Daniel Tucker had resigned from his position last week and was in the process of taking another one in Banks County, according to an email that Chief Dennis Merrifield sent to county government officials late Wednesday afternoon.

“As can be expected, our personnel are very shaken by this incident and we are in the process of providing counseling through our Critical Incident Stress Management Team,” Merrifield wrote.

Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith said his deputies responded to an address on Cajun Lane in reference to a possible suicide. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and the situation was turned over to Coroner David Crosby.

According to Merrifield’s email, Tucker left behind a wife and 5-year-old son.

“Please join me in praying for the Tucker family in this tragic loss,” he wrote.
