Citing noise complaints and safety concerns, Barrow County Airport Authority member Quinn Born proposed Tuesday night changing the suggested flight patterns at the airport to avoid flying over Winder.

“Everybody would be better off – people in Winder, pilots and aircraft – if all the traffic didn’t fly right over Winder,” Born said. “I’ve gotten complaints about the noise and if you have an engine failure over Winder, you’re in big trouble.”

Of most concern is the traffic on Runway 31 which, due to local wind patterns, is the most often used runway at the airport. J.R. Ensley who lives on Camden Dr, off Dunahoo Rd. about a mile from the end of Runway 31 asked the authority to “do something about the noise.’

Watch this one close or it will get buried by the airport authority and nothing more will be said unless those affected push the issue or until a pilot practicing touch and goes slams into downtown.

I live under the flightpath. I suppose to each his own, but the "noise" is virtually zero. How many takeoffs and landings are there? I certainly have no idea. The planes roll down the runway, and are gone within minutes. And you're more likely to be hit by lightning than have a plane fall on you. That seems to be just a scare tactic.

That is because they turn 90 degrees and go over the city. The hardly ever go down the glide/flight path. I live in one of the three subdivisions between the runway and downtown. We get lots of the noise you don’t get. Especially early in the mornings when people are trying to sleep. There is a FFA approved flight/glide path for this airport but no one pays any attention to it.

Well, here we go again...the know it all's speak. flght/glide path, noise, morning flights...bull sh$$. It's not a glide path, it is a traffic pattern. Every pilot it trained to enter and take off using the standard published traffic pattern for that particular airport.

Born seems to be at again..last year he tried to have the AA implement unsafe traffic restrictions. Funny, he is the only one that ever gets complaints...I guess he is the go-to Idiot.

Gliders only...hey, how the hell do you think those gliders get into the air? A big puff of air?

By the way, did you people that bought cheap houses next to the airport not understand why the homes were cheap....because they are located ajacent an airport...hey, airplanes and airports generate noise. Now, if you don't like the noise, then MOVE. You were DUMB enouth to purchase there, I'm sure you can find someone else dumb enough to buy cheap again.

"Your the man" because you are the ONLY one in Barrow Co that knows any thing. I bow to you. Except I only remember one person who could part the seas ... and I do not think that is you. Sorry you love the airport but my friend it will NOT get any bigger than it is. Expecially now that the FAA and the Clarke Co Comm this week give the money and go ahead to enlarge the athens airport for more commerical aircraft.. That just about kills the Winder slum-port. Sorry you lost but maybe there is another issue you can fight for.

I agree with Allen. I didnt buy a house near the airport because I didnt want the noise. I have never understood why people buy a house near the airport and then complain about the noise and traffic. What did they expect?

What noise?!?!? Single-engine planes that make less noise than the multiple 18 wheelers? And they're climbing out and rapidly moving away from the ground.

And how many times do these planes take off? And how many of them?

Red Ryder you need to just go over to the airport on a sunny Saturday and Sunday mornings and watch and see how many take off and land. People that don't live close just don't know. Most are the same planes shooting touch and go but they still climb and makes noise. Most of you people need to go and just watch and listen before passing judgement.

Red Ryder there are a number of multi-engine and small private jets that take off and land on a pretty regular schedule. They are not just single engine planes only.

I have lived in 5 states over my 60 years. I have lived in 3 counties in Georgia. I have never encountered any people like live here in Barrow County. I have not met any people that are as bitter, mean spirited, narrow minded and just don’t give a crap about anybody but themselves than are here in Barrow County.

People complain every week in this paper about attracting new business and jobs to this area. Man all you have to do is read these blogs and you have your answer why they are not coming.

If you don’t think employers outside this county does not know about us then you are sadly mistaken. We are the laughing stock of North Georgia. I have been laughed at numerous times when I say I am from Winder.

When are you people going to wise up? I hear or read “I have been here since birth”, or “that is what’s wrong because you have always been here” or “you are a newbie and you can leave”. You hear “if you don’t like it then move”. Or “the road you came in on leads back out too”.

This county can not move into the future only and until we all come together and work together. Not apart.

Ok, all the mean spirited people can give me my “Barrow County Tongue Lashing” now.

Thanks Harry, I feel the same and lived here most of my life. The only thing keeping me here is family, but, someday I will be free to leave this cess pool of humanity. Yep, for one of the samllest counties in georgia with an abundence of churches, I have never lived with such, greedy, backstabbing,hateful,do unto others before they do unto you,untrustworthy,hyppocrits, and jealous people. With all our faults, you can't help but love them. Because, your kin to alot of them. LOL. Power corrupts, and most folks gravitate to wealth and power. You have a click here that will never believe that all people are created equal, so , you bide you time till you can leave.

how dare you insult my father in that manner. he is a great man and has served his country in honor. his perposal at the meeting was a simple fix to the complants and he also had the safety of the citizens of winder in mind. my father is one person of two people on the airport authority that has real time flying experiance. his opinion and suggestions are valid.so get your egos out of your b-tts.

He may be a great man and served his country as millions of other service men and women did/do but he now sits on a public authority. He is responsible for making decisions that may affect all of us. He is certainly not above criticism...especially when he proposes implementing government regulations. I suggest that if you don't wan't daddy to be critised, then you might want to convince him to resign.

Complaining to the Airport Authority is worthless. They are lucky if they can find their way to the airport much less know what to do after they get there. I have called the FAA about the noise from the plane flying over the city. I was told that they had only two complaints about noise and unless they have more complaints they cannot look into the issue. So if you have a complaint don’t tell the Airport Authority call the FAA in Washington, DC. I was assured that they can look into the noise but not until they believe they have a big enough issue.

The last time I looked there Allen boy the runway has not had the 1500' added to it. Hwy 82 was not moved. The last time I looked no bigger aircraft are landing here. Yelp we lost. You must be using Obama numbers Allen.

OMFG A PLANE JUST FLEW OVER MY HOUSE, WAIT, NO, JUST A SEMI GOING THROUGH DOWNTOWN WINDER. WTF are we complaining about? Really? I hear the TRAIN more often then I hear airplanes and I live right under where the planes make that 90-degree turn and fly over Winder. It doesn't bother me one bit and we leave our windows open every day and all night. Enjoy the small things in life, look up from your POS life before you and enjoy the beauty, sights and sounds. Big jets = no go here. Small planes I can easy handle. Ever even been in a plane at our airport and taken off? I have, when I was 10-16, I'd ride my bicycle up there every day because, sadly, IT'S THE ONLY THING EXCITING GOING ON IN THIS $##!@$ TOWN!

Is the childish banter demonstrated above indicative of the way people in Barrow County communicate, behave, and treat each other? If so, I am really embarrassed for you folks in that county. What a shameful disgrace it is for people to act like this when they should be kind, civilized, and participate in debates intelligently. This sort of behavior is truly the epitome of ignorance in its purest form. I can assure you that I would never consider living anywhere remotely near you mean spirited people!
