People who break the law in the City of Auburn could soon be paying a heftier fine for their offense.
With the rising costs of gas, the Auburn City Council is looking at stiffer traffic fines to help offset the cost of patrolling.
The council will vote at its monthly meeting Thursday, August 7, at 7 p.m. on an additional $20 to be added to fines.
The council held a discussion of this issue at its meeting last Thursday. Police Chief Fred Brown said the additional $20 would help offset the cost of fuel for the police department. He said the $20 additional fee would not be added to fines for seat belt violations, no license on person and no decal on vehicle, but could be added to other offenses.
