Barrow principal being considered for Superintendent position

Principal of Russell Middle School Robert Johnson is being considered for the Superintendent position of Butts County Schools in central Georgia.

Human Resources Specialist for Butts County Schools Ellen Gladwell confirmed Wednesday that Johnson is one of three finalists for the position.

Second level interviews will take place Thursday, said Gladwell. It is unknown when the Butts County school board will make its decision.

The two others being considered for the superintendent position are Robert Costley, current Habersham County school superintendent and James Browder, school superintendent of a school system in Lee County, Fla.

Butts County is located in central Georgia approximately 45 miles south of Atlanta and north of Macon.

I still cannot believe that he was passed over for Creel. To lose him for her is really a shame.

This is the guy that should have been our supt.
but he had enough backbone not to be bullied by the ladies on the BOE or jump through hoops for grandkids.
We are all paying for the BOE choice now and considering 2 principals leaving in 2 months just support what everyone has been telling John Q Public.

I for one am wishing him the best in what ever role he takes. He has made in impact on this community and we will miss him. Very sad state of affairs for the Barrow County School system. We really are losing out with two very good men leaving.

He is not gone yet. The time is NOW to let Rob know how much he means to this community, this school system AND to Russell. This will not be easy for him. Keep him in your prayers.

Good Riddance. He was part of Saunders posse from Alabama, and while intact they were pathetic. Don't blame Creel for everything yet. She inherited a mess of the good ole boy network. Its slowly purging itsself. There are a few others that oughtta go with him. Ever been to Butts Co.? The job must pay really well.

Good points. Johnson's a nice enough guy but the school system won't be weaker without him.

Unless you are t in the system you certainly don't know it. He came with Saunders but he was about the kids and their education.
Creel did inherit problems. but she has caused far more than she ever inherited. I know that for a fact!!!!

The system will be weaker and is getting weaker by the day. Speaking of purging, I intend to try to do that next BOE election. Yes he is a nice guy and he also a caring one. All you who have not believed the mess we are in just keep reading and listening.

Good for Mr. Johnson I hope he gets the job! I wish him the best he is a wonderful person and should have been our Superintendent instead of Creel they are polar opposites he cares about the children of Barrow County. This will be hard for him but like the rest of the employee’s (there are a lot more than you know about) he is leaving any chance they get if the economy was better we would be in a big mess employees would be running faster to get away from Creel. When it comes time to VOTE we need to show the BOE we have had enough and VOTE the BOE out!!!

Oh yes, economy or not alot are leaving and they can put in all those they have waiting in line for these jobs. and when that bunch has had their fill it will be the same thing. Now by that time the elections for the BOE will be here. In the mean time the students of Barrow will be the ones to suffer all the turn over. Bur what does that matter, the BOE just wants to look like they are doing what is best. Insead of the people who are sitting in the guilded offices and homes making the decisions for all of those who have put them in place, why don't they just ask someone what is happening. It is a mess. Keep waiting and watching. You will see.

Rob is not just a good guy he is a consummate educator. He always begins a relationship by believing in the best of everyone he meets. He is a great organizer, has a great eye for hiring true talent, and will be a wonderful asset to Butt County.

Losing Rob Johnson will mean losing his wonderful wife too. What a fabulous educator she is. They are two fine people and I wish them all the best where ever they are.
Even though I love Rob dearly, the BOE picked the strongest leader out of the candidates to move us forward. Let's not forget that Eli Welch was one of those candidates too. He looks good and smells good but his peers have absolutely no respect for him. He has never been on time to a meeting a day in his life! He comes in late making a grand entrance working the room, but there is not much behind the pressed suit.
Creel may not win a popularity contest but she is turning the system around. The evidence is in the data. For those of you that really understand AYP and how it works you know this to be true!!! You can't argue with the tremendous forward progress we have made and she has led that charge!

I, as you, know the inside of the system and I can tell you Creel has not turned the system around, the PRINCIPALS STAFF AND TEACHERS HAVE and it has nothing to do with her leadership...as she has no skills there at all!!You can only manage by intimadation for only so long. These fine people wanted the students to succeed and developed programs on their own. With her blessing of course and she will take credit for their hard work with the board. She will tell the school staff one thing and run back to the board with a fabrication to cover her butt with the same issue, It will catch up with her.
Save your praises for Creel for those of us who do the work and put up with her tantrums.

Please feel free to share with all of us the data in which you are referring.
The things she is getting credit for were put in place before she started and the results are just now being seen.
Popularity is not what I look for in a school supt. Be honesty is and she has failed there.

Rob Johnson is not only a gentleman but a great educator and a leader.
He is just another in a long line that will move on. It is sad and his leadership and wisdom and cool under fire demeanor will be missed. I wish him the best.

Wanda, please tell us just one example of something(what DATA) YOU put in place that is now paying off. Talk is cheap we can all say the sky is blue but the proof is in the pudding and you can’t cook!!!

I am one of the ones doing the work. The principals, staff and teachers work tirelessly every day for the students of Barrow County. It takes leadership at the top to move us forward.

Ours comes from our principal and we are self motivated for student success. Our RTI was developed on site. Our gains have been awesome and we will continue no matter who is supt. Her attitude only effects our principal as she is a buffer for us. She stays positive. We have seen and heard it and Dr. Creel.
So save your praise for Creel. She can never go back and undo the damage in PR she has caused for us. Our students succeed in spite of her.

You are correct. I go to work each week not knowing what new mandate per Dr. Creel has been issued for the week in reaction to something she knows nothing about. Spending all of her micro managing everything could be used for more productive programs. Yes there are people leaving and I am one of them at the end of this year. I will not have 6 furlough days sprung on me. I really do wish Rob Johnson the best and he and his wife are wonderful educator, but more important, honest people.

My childs school is the CCPA. It is all a total lie it has all real bad kids and there was so many fights there on friday that my child said they stopped having school and told them go sit in the lunchroom til the bus came. Creel needs to close that joke school.

They can't as they have to provide another high school because both of the others did not meet AYP. It would mean they would have to provide busing to another county if chose to send your child there.

We are happy for Rob and his family. However sad for the Barrow community as he will not be here to continue touching so many students lives in such a positive manner. He really made a difference with our children. Best Wishes
