Vacant house completely destroyed by fire

A vacant house off Brown’s Bridge Road in Auburn was completely destroyed by a fire Monday afternoon.

The cause is under investigation by the Barrow County Fire Investigation team and the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Lt. Scott Dakin with Barrow County Emergency Services, communications officers received a 911 call reporting a structure fire at 364 Browns Bridge Road in Auburn just before 2:45 p.m. Oct. 3.

Firefighters arrived and found a singlewide trailer that had several additions built on that was fully involved.

Firefighters had to fight the fire from the outside of the home due to the amount of fire, said Dakin. The fire was brought under control by utilizing the departments Ladder Truck. Ladder 7, Engine 4, Med 4 and 7, Battalion 1 and Barrow county Deputy Fire Chief John Skinner responded to the scene.

The department’s Rehabilitation Van was also sent to the scene.

The home was completely destroyed by the fire. No one lived at the home at the time of the fire.

I was one of the nearby citizens when this fire had occurred. It was black smoke coming out of the front windows, and about 30 seconds later, there was fire in the windows instead of the smoke. Also, i believe the fire was caused by a rat/mouse gnawing at a cable. It possibly threw off sparks, the sparks lit up the carpet, then it went from a little ember to a raging inferno. that's what i believe what happened.
