For the fourth year in a row, the Barrow County Airport Authority approved a budget that costs the taxpayers almost nothing and bolsters the county coffers significantly.
Due to continued troubled economic times in the aviation industry, the 2012 budget is exactly the same as the 2011 budget, with the exception of four relatively minor line items. One is the allotment of $3,000 for fiscal audit fees because, as of 2011, the county requires authorities to pay for their own audits. Previously Barrow County paid.

so 3,000 less from non airport fund, this is good thing the airport is not requesting more from the general county coffers... wish other parts of Barrow county would follow this example.
What is the purpose of a Private Airport with no public use? Why is Barrow subsidizing what amounts to a private play ground? Don't forget all the moneys already spent to condemn private property to expand this private play ground.
The story clearly states the county is not subsidizing the airport - the airport is generating $100,000 a year for the county in ad valorem and sales tax. The public can and does use the airport. Your comments are misguided.
What do you mean by private. Only the people who have hangers there may use it?
Only airlines that have gates or leases can use it.
Thats how airports work
Thats how airports work
You are wrong. People from other airports fly into the Winder airport all the time. Lumping the Winder airport into the same category as Hartsfield is inaccurate in every way...This is the same thinking that drove the last BOC chairman election into emotion-land. Get a grip and Google the FAA about business class vs international airports - very different rules and regs.
You have no idea what you are talking about. Anyone with an aircraft can use the airport...
Be careful Lorin. People are still mad over this stupid airport. You can cause your readership to go down. In this economic times no need to make more hard feelings.
I stand by my comment and am signing off blog-troll-comment land for the night. When last I checked our readership was going up due to our consistent excellent coverage of local news.
Yeah your right and everybody else is wrong. We have heard that from the BJ before. No change there.
I'm on the Airport Authority and Lorin's facts are correct. The airport has had a balanced budget for years. It generates 100,000 in ad valorem and sales tax for the county. It is a public airport that is also an Air National Guard airfield. It has a nice cafe in the terminal that is open to the public. Just in case you're wondering, I don't have a plane or a pilot's licence.
