The Barrow County sheriff and the director of Animal Control said it was lack of communication that led to an incident where an animal control officer refused to pick up several emaciated dogs until he received a signed court order by a magistrate judge late last month.
Sheriff’s deputies arrested Monroe resident Christy Elaine Ladner, 29, on charges of animal cruelty after discovering seven dogs in various levels of distress and a dead dog at her residence at 545 Manning Gin Road on Aug. 27. The deputies were responding to a 911 hang up call.
According to the incident report, deputy Shane Hunnicutt called Animal Control to have the dogs picked up, but when Animal Control officer Randy Greer arrived, he said he would not take the dogs without a court order.
