The Barrow County Board of Commissioners Tuesday night approved a new policy that, effective immediately, only county employees who are officially on call are allowed to drive county vehicles home.

Commissioner Ben Hendrix raised the issue and made the motion, which was approved unanimously. However, he could not answer Commissioner Larry Joe Wilburn’s question about how many vehicles are currently being driven home.

Hendrix said he and Commissioner Steve Worley had met with the sheriff about the issue. Sheriff Jud Smith said after the meeting that the new policy would have “no impact” on his department because all 73 of the cars in his department that are driven home at the end of work shifts are operated by staff who are always on call.

Barrow County Emergency Services Chief Dennis Merrifield said after the meeting that three people from his department drive home cars. They include him, deputy chief John Skinner, and fire marshal Dana Thornton.

Merrifield said since he and Skinner are always on call, he does not think the new policy would apply to them. He said he would seek clarification on whether it would apply to Thornton, though he lives nearby.

WOW!!!! Barrow co has 73 police on call 24 hours a day??? We need to rethink this, it must be costing the county a lot of money because I am sure they are paid extra if they are "on call"!!!

Guess that's just Jud's way pf saying all my cars are still going home rather its approved or not! He's the law & can do what he wants! GO OL BOY SYSTEM RUNS BARROW CO!

Such a great job is being done we have drug dealer, child molesters, people steeling, & every other crime happening & nothing being done!!! WAY TO GO!!!

The changes are certainly not needed in this area. Jud is doing a wonderful job and it is people like you that seem to want to trash talk and have no idea or concept of the facts. You prefer to make up your own case and story and at the end of the day noone really cares. There have been several changes that have prevented crime in this town and several more to follow. A Big Thanks to Jud and all the deputies for their hard work on and off duty!!

Go do your homework. The other opponent (Murry Kogod) is one of the reasons the sheriffs office is in the red on it's budget. Him and Joel Robinson thought it was a good idea to spend all of the remaining budget on crap so Judd would have a negative budget when he came in. Why did Murry and Joel need touch screen computers, or plush new desks and chairs. If Murry was such a stand up guy, why is it that he left So fast without saying a word to anyone. He has to be the better opponent though, he has a law degree. REALLY? So smart yet he took a job in Stephens Co making 40,000 a year. That's exactly who we wanted as sheriff. Everything I just said can be proved by filing open records for those who doubt it.

1. No, they DO NOT get paid anymore for being on call unless your in the Criminal Investigations Unit. When you are hired as a police officer or deputy, you are advised that you could be called at anytime, even on your day off. This is due to shift shortage, major incidents, natural disasters etc.

AS far as the take home cars go, would you rather have a patrol car running 24 hours a day ( day shift switches with night shift at shift change) or would you rather have the car run for 12 to 13 hrs a day. Let me break it down for you. The longer you have a vehicle running, ANY vehicle, the quicker they get miles and wear and tear. What does that mean for the tax payers? Replacing patrol cars a lot sooner is what it means. Also, with officers/deputies taking their car home means more officers on the street at one time around shift changes, which means quicker response times to calls or accidents etc. Dont even get me going on the drug dealer issue. Read the newspaper for once. There is not one issue that doesn't have someone being arrested for drug related crimes. The only thing citizens like you like to do is complain about the things you read in the newspaper or see in the news. Go ride with an officer for a shift and you will see the real side of police work, not just what you read about. The media reports maybe 20% of what we do out here. The other 80% always goes unnoticed. Instead of complaining about the police/deputies, how about being greatfull for the security we provide you everyday. YOUR WELCOME!!!

I am not nor have I ever been a police officer. I pay taxes that pay for the gas and costs for the police officers to do this and this is what I have to say. I have always felt police officers are under paid, and if this is a perk then so be it. Also, the cops are on duty until they get home and turn the car off.

Let me ask you this. Suppose you are at the intersection of 211 and Carl Cedar Hill rd. and are getting jacked by a thug. Would you like to see an officer on his way to work to stop and help or do you want him to ride by in his personal car and then go on down the road and clock in and let someone else deal with it.

Some of you need to think about stuff before you just go on a gripe fest. So what if they pick up their kids on the way home. If you all say you have never been on the clock and stopped and got a coffee at a store or a coke. Everybody does something (some more than others) It is just that this is public info. so it gets noticed.

I think most law-abiding citizens who respect law enforcement will agree with me and the ones that have a problem will probably one day be on the short end of the stick because the police are getting tired of the way they get treated.

I would never be a police officer. Not put my life on the line for the low pay and the way people dont respect them. Give them a break.Seriously....

What some people dont seem to understand is that even if the officer is "off duty" in their patrol car, that in itself is a crime deterrent. If a cop goes to a store and gets things for his house on the way home from work in the patrol car, guess what store is not going to be robbed? That same store that will not jack up the prices to cover the cost of a theft. Please people, there are very good reasons to allow the cras to be taken home. I will vote in favor. Just my opinion. You have a really good point Trevor, I know I feel safer when I go into a store where there is a police car out side. Same thing when I go to eat, I would much rather see a police officer or deputy in the parking lot.

Vehicles have been shown time and time again to last longer and be better maintained when issued as take home vehicles. Deputies and officers in several counties have to be on call for subpoenas for court and have to be within a certain time frame to respond in a certain amount of time and are not compensated for being on call. Most officers assigned to special units are on cal 27/7 and the only compensation they recieve is the take home vehicle. So with the trade off being they take better care of the car and you get free or next to services or you pay on-call compensation it saves the taxpayers all around.

Personally, I believe a little funding and energy should go into checking signal lights on county AND city cars are working properly since I NEVER SEE COPS USE BLINKERS! EVER!! If I ever get pulled over for failure to use MY blinker I may just lose it.

well in real police depts the officers are also always on call and expected to report to work or call if unable and do not get to use County cars,.
some city workers in some cities as matter of fact when issues arise and fails to report to work and suspended and or fired.
how does this "ON CALL" deal work with Barrow county?
Why do Deputies have people not involved in dispatch call in county cars? ever see deputy at kanagroo or publix with females in county car loading snacks and relaxing?
glad the crack deputies get to take the cars home and use them to get paid when on call. at other jobs.

they should not be spending spending spending, insurance would cover propety losses and if insurance companies thought police taking cars home was better your rates where it happens would be lower that isnt the case.
insurance companies lower your premimium for burglar alarms and smoke detectors not for county workers using county property and fuel for personal needs

no what i am saying is the take hime and personal use of cars is not a wise use of taxper.
Business owners arent allowed to use personal use of company property without making report and payment of such to the irs come to think of it maybe like business owners having to pay for it the county should start 1099 the deputies that take the car home since it saves them insurance, gas mileage on thier own car.
also there is one Barrow county Deputy car comes down 85 every morning from banks crossing area doing 85 plus it is dodge wagon, wow glad hes in deputy car to avoid getting pulled over by banks and jackson county deputies

Not one word of that makes ANY sense. As far as the deputy running 85 mph. How do you know this? Are you radar certified ? Why wouldn't he be in his car, he is most likely going to work, not trying to get out of a ticket. If you are that mad about it, call the sheriff and complain. well if i am going seventy five and it takes him four minutes from when he appears in rear view to when he passes and disappears i assume he is going at least 85, maybe more and this is every morning so every morning he is speeding and it is ok because he is in police car two counties outside barrow. but we need the best we can get police that speed and complain to who the sheriff who claims all 73 cars drivers are on call 24/7.
wow Jackson County only has 54 duputy car why does Barrow have so many more?

Sounds like you have WAY too much time on your hands to actually attempt to calculate how fast a deputy is going by looking in your rear view mirror and timing it passing you. That is the WHOLE problem here, you assumed. You and everyone else who has negative posts in here are always assuming they know what's going on. As far as Jackson Co. only having 54 cars, let's think about this for a minute there smart guy. Barrow county has a bigger sheriffs office because Barrow County has a larger population, thus having more deputies therefor needing more cars. There, see how easy that was, actually thinking before you post something, very under rated these days apparently. Just a side note though, start looking in front of you while driving and stop worrying about who is four minutes behind you, which is in it of itself absolutely AMAZING that you can actually see a car that far back.

Ive been screaming this for months and any commissioner that votes against it needs to go. Do it to it Danny. Who the heck cares how many Larry Joe, any cars driven home on our dime in this economy is too many 73? Really 73 on call.
Lets see 73 cars x 10 gallons per day wasted @ 3.50 per gallon x 365 days = a cool $932,575.00

Now that is impressive however why off track. The deputies work 12 hrs shifts which breaks down to 15 days a month which then breaks down to 6 months a year. So that proves that calculation WAY OFF. Now lets talk about the gas "Wasted". How is it wasted fuel. They are responded to calls, accidents. traffic enforcement etc keeping your butt safe. ( I know, I know, you dont need them to keep you safe, I have heard it all) But you know as well as I do they are the first ones you call if you need something. If you and your families security isn't worth the few dollars they use in gas then there are A LOT more issues here then cars and gas. By the way speaking of "tax dollars" we need a raise for dealing with "SMART ONES" like yourself.

land area 162.84 SQ miles
one patrol car for every 919 residents
Murders: 1
Rapes: 8
Robberies: 2

Auto thefts: 83

roughly 3600 more residents but far less area to patrol. hmmm so it still seems personal use of cars is costing more then it is adding to the taxpayer.
so once more why does Barrow need so many cars?

343.00 Sq miles of Jackson.
and the reports are from the Sheriffs office
wasnt to hard to figure what can be cut to avoid raising property taxes on the taxpayers.

DeKalb County does have an on call policy and does FIRE Sheriffs dept personnel who dont show up without cause, oh this includes sheriffs employees that do not have free gas and cars to use.

Dekalb Co Sheriffs Dept by the way does not patrol the streets like Barrow or Jackson Co, they work courts and civil so why would they need take home cars in the first place? Also, ANY EMPLOYER WILL FIRE AN EMPLOYEE FOR NOT SHOWING UP WITHOUT CAUSE SMART ONE. If you are going to try and state facts and stats, don't try to pad them to make them look better then they actually are in an attempt to prove a point, your a just making yourself look that much more like an idiot.

The only thing that your FALSE stats appear to be proving is Jackson Co needs a new Sheriff. If your stats are true , from last year and not 2001, then if you had more cars your crime rate wouldnt be close to Barrow Co.

But all those great stats aside, tell me how much more Barrow residents are paying in taxes for having take home cars. If you sit down and look at REAL figures, I think you will be VERY surprised at the, LOW,LOW cost, if there is any difference at all. Just out of curiosity though, why do you care about taxes being paid in Barrow? You don't pay them if living in Jackson

I live in Barrow County work and enjoy Hartwell area.
Seems you are the one that doesnt have any facts just The Barrow Sheriff office is great, Dont Complain. they doing Great job. who cares how much they spend.
Then when I do use Sheriff Office data which by the way isnt for this year since thats not how the reporting works . you say age and all kinds of other things is why Jackson county Sheriff does better.
You allude to Barrow and the criminals Race being the cause.
Glad Sheriff Jud has a nice person like you supporting him.
well I saw some WHITE sheets on Clearance just perfect for cutting holes in while you make more false claims on who criminals are.

I also recall him mentioning in the newspaper that the price and amount of FUEL being is is more then expected and needed to be addressed.....

so exactly how many CITY and PUBLIC safety that have written POLICY and WRITTEN nitice of failing to report on call well I know two but you claim I cant come up with one.

I used Statements from Barrow county Sheriff when asking for more money.
you used well look at this, well it helps us having take home cars.
you claim just take home cars are benifit. no facts just a feeling and feeling take home cars last longer cause they get better taken care of..... no proof of this..... just souned like who would argue that....... when I mention on close Sheriff office you jump on me why would I care nore living in Barrow...... still waiting on your facts to be presented....................

You really need help. I am not the one who is complaining about the sheriff, you are. Why would I need to come up with facts, I am not the one arguing about it. You have not however, backed up any allegation , with any facts, just your own thinking. Again, show me where Dekalb fired someone for not showing up when called. You can't. And what does that have ANYTHING to do with Barrow County take home policy. As far as proof of vehicles lasting longer, I am your proof. Have had take home cars most of my career and took care of it like it was my personal owned vehicle. Compare that to vehicles that are used by more then one officer that have to be replaced a lot sooner meaning what, oh ya, purchasing new ones. Apparently you must be smarter then 90 percent of police agencies in Georgia because most have take home cars, including Georgia State Patrol. Maybe you are the person that is going to save all the taxpayers money next year with your great wisdom. Prob. Not though, seeing your posts make me think you will most likely will be still pumping gas.....hey, maybe it will be my gas in my police car, WOW, that would be great.

state patrols have take home cars due to fact the offices are sometimes great distance from post to both where Officer lives and work area.
They take strong action when officers mis use cars.
you know my grand father has car last long time and mostly cause it sits in his driveway.
we are talking about work equipment that get replaced anyhow and even these take home cars get replaced and you make the claim better taken care of but where is the proof the lower cost ETc.
just because Sheriffs in past have let county equipment not bu utilized and burdened the taxpayer economic times have changed.
the taxpayer is suffering.
yet Sheriffs office response on one hand more money but when it comes to reducing cost there is we cant do that al every one of our cars are on call.
trucking companies dont let equipment sit idle UPS the Post office dont let eqiupment sit idle.
Post office is moving away from the PERSONAL vechile for delviery driver as this has PROVEN to cost POST OFFICE more.
CUMMONG post office has removed all routes from personal cars.
Companies moving towards less one person cars also.
Taxi cab companies also haave sharing of cars not one user.
now these are examples of companis looking to reduce cost.
make money etc.
but since the take home car thing is so entrenched as benifit that you dont care how much it is COSTING the taxpayer the ones that have to pay for the fuel and cars

Cherokee county has stopped take home policy.
several other agencies also but we can live in the world you live in feeling entitled to taxpayer making sure you dont lose one minute of time and money SERVING and PROTECTING the Gas station attenant. since it shows you look down your nose at anyone who has to work for a living.
one who has to pay car insurance and pay to fill own car.
and you wonder why people think Police in some cases are frowned upon.
Being Arrogant with taxpayers the ones who pay for the car the job they do, will cause this.

I have sat in silence way too long while reading this,and other blogs. I am employed by Sheriff Smith and am not afraid to tell you. I find it amazing that three or four people are in here saying what they are about law enforcement officials. Now I will tell you I may not agree with some of the things being posted by are you kidding , but fully understand why he is frustrated. When you have someone saying what they said about officers dying, that's just poor judgement, and I don't need to tell you who you are. It shouldnt really matter who passed away, officer or civilian, very uncalled for. As far as someone going through one of our roadblocks and not liking the uniforms. WOW, first of all, the uniforms you saw ARE military style uniforms much too your dismay. But here is the thing, listen up all you taxpayers in here, the uniforms we wear are military grade, unlike the polyester pants we wore in the past. Why did we change, for one, they are a lot cheaper, and two, they last three times as long. Cheaper and longer lasting = less money spent. Those of you who think we only chase cows out of the road need to listen to this....we are in many fights and foot chases, sometime two or three times a night during weekend hours. Now I know this may come as a BIG surprise to many but the media doesnt share all of that info with you, as well as many other things we do , so cut us some slack on the stereotyping, name calling, bashing of law enforcement you do. It's not our fault you don't get all the facts and stats of what we " cow chasers" really do. Buy a scanner, you may be surprised at what you hear happening in "Burrow County", and start realizing what your public safety is REALLY up against on these streets. You will probably stop gripping about your tax dollars paying our salaries too.

The last time I went through a road block in Barrow Co. I didn’t see one officer in a regular uniform. They all had on military style clothes. I felt like I was going through a road block in Afghanistan. The guy that looked at my papers even had tattoos all over his arms. I drove away with a very bad taste in my mouth about the deputies.

Why is everyone here arguing over a few thousand in cost when the board is wasting hundreds of thousands if not close to millions right in front of us. As for our high Sheriff, you don't run a county department you have a constitutional office. Forget the commission and run your office and give your deputies what they need. The majority of the citizens support you and our deputies. I may not agree with alot of you policies and how y'all handle somethings but that is what a tuesday in november every four years is for. As for all the cars/deputies, I would like to see them parked at the YMCA rather than McDonalds and DQ. As a group, our wonderful deputies are grossly, some morbidly obese. This cannot be good for the county.

One story you will not see the BCJ do is on the average weight of our deputies. That would be too incendiary.

There is not anyone in this county that is of driving age that has not been driving above the speed limit at one time or the other. And you have looked back to make sure and law enforcement officer was not behind or beside you. You have chosen not to wear seatbelts. John Q Public and Johnette Q Public have tsked tsked over robbery, murder, rape, child abuse, spousal abuse....but you are not dealing with it. Unless you or yours is a victim. In a perfect world we would not need law enforcement officers. But again as I have stated before we do not have one. But remember...they are LAW ENFORCEMENT, they do not make them. If you have a problem with the laws, you elected the people who are putting them on the books and signing them into law. Go after them or better yet, get out a vote. The officers have to eat in a 12 hours shift. If they go home,,oh my look at the fall out there. Just because you see a patrol car at a fast food place doesn't mean all "73" cars are there all day. If you have problems with them driving the cars home, can you imagine the fall out from driving them on personal time to the YMCA. Please save the sarcasm.

They are also forgetting that these officers are the one called in during inclement weather to work the wreaks and keep the roads safe after everyone has been asked to please stay off the roads. OR they are called in during emergencies for 18 hours of work because the public has to be kept safe because someone caused and accident with a wreck and toxic waste is involved.
That is their job and they have chosen to do it. They are getting paid. But I guess the question is is driving a car home so they can get to an emergency without first going and checking out their car at the Sheriff's office quicker and more time effective than getting to where they are needed worth the money. Yes, if it is worth a life, my vote is for life...not the money.

I remember I used to go out a lot before marriage and Children.
enjoyed some great bBQ, closed to public but having work in Beverage industry at the time went to big BBQ held in Junkyard cleaned up bands playing soild concerete floors
this was deal run by "OFF DUTY"
there were local marked cars, Federal uniforms personeel.
drivers in the marked cars had beverages that had markings that if found in my car with what label said I would get carted to the GreyBar motel chain.
my point being is I havent seen a BBQ held by Barrow County Deputies but I do know and have heard some former Jefferson, Norcross and COmmerce officers who have had more private BBQ and adult beverages were consumed. now these officers kept Duty belt and the police neon traffic vest in rear of personal crs haging to help avoid getting asked to take test for concerns with DUI DWI.
easier not to be stopped to start to explain things.
City cops when wanting preferred parking like fire hydraunt etc still use set of handcuffs over the steering wheel to help notify parking people it is special car.
so when I see Deputy or other goverment worker taking home and using my county city or stae car to make life smoother so they can speed or maybe not have to explain at start of tour why they smell like Anheuser Busch or Jacks Daniels or Steel REserve. before they get behind the wheel of car.
I am not saying it happens with Barrow County I dont know any deputies here but growing up in two generation Police and Fire family I have heard much and I know human nature is to see what one can get by doing.
so unbridled freedom sometimes leads to unbrideled judgements.
Good thing to have EMPLOYEES show p before starting working to make sure they are healthy and well before start of shift not start and on way if stop and claim they hurt the ankle on the job rather then in wrestling match with friends.
I am just saying look over the incidents of Barrow Deputies fire just in last two years in the papaer, before you start saying it is all make believe cream of the crop ETC

no you cant but also with no one making sure this isnt happening.
recently within the last year a TN state trooper in car on job was arrested only because citizens called 911 he was so drunk.
so if no one is making sure Police like the Police in New Jersey taped drinking on the job of course it may not have all of them drinking since all cups were not see though.
or couple years ago when local police used to sit and eat and drink beverages at local restaruant . bar the beverages they got came from back. not saying they had liquor in them but regular customers got drinks in glass containers while the group of Braselton City, Gwinnett Count and Barrow county in uniform got drinks in styrofoam containers with lids on them. even though they ate and remained in establishment for more then two hours.
I am not saying it was anything but it was varied from being anything but suspicous, and when the guys were leaving no payment was left according to worker there who lives in jefferson that was the norm,
now I still go to same place havent seen uniformed groups there anymore rumor had it there was falling out.
but when uniformed Police work bars and clubs and are drinking not out of canned soda but to go cups it is suspect.
Cops work hard play hard one of the things that is downfall in personal lives of many.

I totally understand that. Again I say there is a difference in then and now and where. My husband still gets is drinks in a to go cup, usually when we go out because he is so used to having to get up and move quick. As he has paid for it and has had to leave his meal, he can carry his drink with him. It is always sweet tea. I have tried to get him to break this habit and he still can't. You do not have to tell me about the work hard and play hard. But he works hard and is usually worn out after work and does sleep hard instead of always playing hard.
But when you have your life or a loved one affected by an incident that needs emergency help, Do you really want to wait form him to go the the sheriff's office, check out his car?
This has happened on several occasions. You guys have no idea of the extent of some of the calls that these law enforcement officers get or what they are required to do just to get on the road. and I really hope you never have to experience any of it as some of these are life shattering for the victims and their families.

well in this case it was fith of bacardi and they were on duty not at lunch, the Tn trooper was on Start of Watch,
Heres the thing if you as police fail to find officers tht do these thing prior to the people you are sworn to protect why would you not expect people to find that it is possible and likely it is going on here in Barrow county?
especially when your Sheriff and supposed to be our Sheriff makes a statemnt that all his deputies are on call 24/7
this is just to me meaning his dept is going to do whatever, they dont care about saving or even appearing to say we can look at the possibility of saving money.
in some cases maybe only 60 cars need to be taken home.
or like Cherokee county who is saving 30 percent of its prior spending with no harm to its dept or the community.
I guess sometimes maybe before a elected office holder makes a blanket statement they should consider what they are saying, and how it appears to those people living here in Barrow county working hard to pay mortgage, school fee, gas light and have had to cut back.

how do you think the guy who lost his job and is trying to decide to eat or make his insurance payment so he can drive a car not his car any car cause if you let your insurance lapse your drivers license gets suspened not your tags.
and when a deputy pulls over someone who boorrowed someone else cars and with the exception of the insurance thing the guy is legal.
When the guy pleads with the BARROW county deputy to at least let the owner come get the car and not have it towed the deputy tells him no cant do it.
now this is untrue Gwinnett Deputies have been able to see sometimes life slips in.
i say the Barrow county thing with this motorist cause it happend at hwy 124 and Beringer point subdivion.
the owner even showed up and the deputy was just rude.

I guess heres the thing, some bad apples have gone unchecked and even in last year only when caught due to video or people various people calling 911 some i say some officers do improper things due to no leadership.
So when Sheriff says ALL my employees are on call 24/7.
I have been on call and when on call do not make firm plans and do not drink.
at times i have been called to come in and tell the supervisor I cannot because I had A beer.
a lot of people when drinking and dont make good judgement calls.
and when the person entrusted to seeing to public safety makes a wild statement like all yes all his employees are on call 24/7.
This certainly leaves the gret chance that one employee makes a poor choice due to no oversight by the person that the people have voted not only to serve the Deputies but the Citizens as well.
as i said the sweet tea thing is fine when the sweet tea is filled in open the drinks being served may have been sweet tea but they came from kitchen and not from where other patrons beverages were coming from.
A friend of mine, his wife involved in youth group.
to avoid the appearance of certain things that are fine for adults certain movies he likes programs he likes, she asks him to keep these items in his den.
Why to avoid the ppearance to young persons that certain thing may trigger involvment in unhealthy way.
Perception of what we do is a lot to do with response one gets back.
A uniformed state rooper coming up for a stop no sunglasses no tattoos goes better then Officer coming up in BDU s, Oakleys and a lecture on why cant you find your driver license while the yell at you.
The whiole time wallet sitting next to you but by officer being aggresive and such it isnt till he walks away you notice your wallet.
Then the Officer get all aggresive once more because your wasting thier time.
The case I mentioned when contacted that officers duty officer the duty officer calls that deputy in, and apoligized for the deputies actions.
Somehow I dont think Barrow county Sheriff office takes time to help Officers deal with being polite.
It is tough situation when ever there is a stop.
It can start off worse when the Officer initaiting stop is hostile and or appears to be looking to screw the motorist.
I have uniform we are required to wear. the company I work for has 15,000 employes we are required to have any tattoes covered not visible to our coworkers and customers.
unless prescrition Glasses or Glasses used while Driveing in company car or trucks we are required to remove these upon exit of car, before dealing with our current or possible customers.
Our shirts must be tucked in at all times.
our trousers must be laundered and ironed.
we are not allowed to use tobacco or chewing gum in our company isued cars.
our crs have breathalizer interlocks on them to avoid the misuse of them.
so I understand it is hard for some to realize they are here to work with the citizen not just stop ticket stop ticket stop ticket.

Is it you have had some ticketing problems in the past? I am just asking, not trying to start something with you. Tickets are something one gets when breaking the law and have been found to actually save lives. You speed, you run a red light, you don't stop at a stop sign, or you drink and drive and you could kill someone. And yes, I can see where some of these officers would get very irritated with constantly stopping people for the same thing day in and day out. It is a shame when adults have other adults care more about their safety and those of others sharing the road with you than the drivers themselves.
As far as the Oakleys...some one would have had to given them to them or would around here at this house. We have to buy groceries and put gas in our car.

lol no issues with tickets....many years.
ut I live off 124 and some Barrow Deputies are great, here both whats on scan Barrow and what I see from front porch while deputies make stops in front of the house.
I dont have to be a law breaker to notice when people are being mistreated.
I also notice some Deputies go an extra mile to work with people it is the ones that dont care about people just tickets tickets tickets.
and one of the Police officers I know where he wors he has most DUI arrest from the locale it was his first year as officer looking back he says some of the reasons for making those stops early in in career were borderline but all of the drivers had been drinking at leas something.
he doesnt worry about making the record anymore just coming into work and doing his job.
but he admits as his first year he was a grade a butthole.

well since our company is in the interst of maing money and it involves some employees using cars, to avoid employees endangering lives as a precaution they take steps to make sure they are not liable in event someone make poor choices with their assets.
my coworkers are bonded and work in areas requiring regulation by Dept of Engergy, Hartsfield airport, public and private locations requiring background checks, just because a person hasnt done or been caught doing things that arent in the best interest of others doesnt mean the company shouldnt help to make sure they dont make poor judgemnt.

Just because deputies in Barrow havent been taped or caught misusing county property doesnt mean it doesnt happen and with no one in command making a point to say dont do these things. dont speed use turn signals, dont pick up friend and family in county property etc then why wouldnt people be upset when they see a deputy with females sitting in cars holding hands or picking up kids from Bramlett in county car.

Do you not understand the car is for goverment business not for picking up family, spending lunch break with girlfriends or wives, speeding on the highway.

What ever he is doing it's now paint a pretty picture on his arguments. It makes everyone doubt everything he is saying and places no merit on it. You wouldn't send your child to school if there teacher had a resume that looked like this, would you?

LOL Maybe, I am just poor country bumpkin, Graduated the sixth grade with Jethro Bodine and work pumping the Ethyl with Gomer for Sheriff Taylor.
But Sheriff Taylor don't fret with me for being gas station feller like some of the Law Enforcement foks posting I just work as Soda Jerk or Gas Station feller.
Guess Sheriff Buford T Justice and Sheriff Roscoe PeeCoTrain are more into looking out for Boss Hog.

I don't type for a living in English.
What I do type doesn't require Grammar or punctuation.
Using numbers works well.
just because one can't type fails to link to one is wrong or not educated.
The issue here is BOC.
Reduction in spending.
The reason why it should not be done have been refuted.
Examples given in Georgia where it does save money not harming public safety.
I was called names and what ever career or job I may have or liked to have if I were Gas station or fast food worker, slammed by those siding with the statement the Sheriff made.
They made arguments failed to show anything to back those up.
