The Barrow County Board of Education in a called meeting Tuesday unanimously approved a recommendation to keep its millage rate at 18.5 mills.
Chris Griner, executive director of business services for the school system, made the recommendation.
Board member Lynn Stevens made the motion to approve. Connie Wehunt seconded.
Board member Dan Cromer said he would support the 18.5 mills, but expressed concerns for next year where he said he foresees “serious problems.”
Stevens said that she was also concerned, but “given these economic times, it is not fair, right or reasonable to entertain a tax increase.”
If you want to support local control in education than you will applaude the new process if not, than Im sure in 5yrs the BOE will be more than happy to take over again and make such decisions for you
Did not a question appear in these blogs several days ago about the limitations of the BOE with the charter schools?
I know so. The process is in place and housewives, jeez, now have a say so. Those housewives and high school students are the ones actually involved. Why would they not have a say so?
